I use @freeagent to manage the books of a small family business... but the barmy implementation of the Open Banking connection to my @NatWestBusiness account doesn't support payments on weekends... bonkers. Open to real reasons Free Agent / Pay It / Natwest can't work wkends?!

@Riksmithuk Hi Rik 👏 How are you today? Can I ask, was this a recent attempt or did you try this earlier on? It's just that there were technical issues earlier which may have impacted this process. Can you send me a DM with your full name, sort code and post code please? - Lauren. twitter.com/messages/compo…

Such an interesting map of the borough of Willesden in 1917. So little had been built! Look at the municipal wards of "South Kilburn", "Mid Kilburn" and "North Kilburn! No sign of Queen's park neighbourhood then....

@EngineerLondon How about the Isle of Wight? Head to Yarmouth in the west. Very good buses for access. Great as a walking holiday destination, pubs etc. I am biased, but can recommend accommodation options etc in Freshwater Bay.

The electrical widow and I are thinking of booking a holiday- (relax, my phone will be on in case of issues 📞) Question- Where do you recommend for about a week, autumn? Must have good craft beer scene and plenty of meaty food options. Ideally accessible by train from London 💁🏻‍♂️

@IanBarkerBFY Requirement to pay it off? .. Simply to reduce the cost of the loan book, accepting high earners will pay it off...and everyone else won't. If it were a fixed period tax.... The high earners would keep paying. One could optimise for that, reducing cost for others

@Riksmithuk I’m not yet convinced it’s a tax, it’s more like an attachment of earnings order. But it’s not a hill I’ll die on for sheer intellectual curiosity 😂 If there’s no requirement to pay it off, then why bother charging for it in the first place 🤷‍♂️

On face value there appears to be a missing financial education piece here as part of handing out student loans for ~£60k. Just as compound interest is good for savings, it’s also bad for debtors… A thread 🧵 1/
Simon Hannah@Simon_P_Hannah

In 2021 I owed £61,586 on all my student loans. I am pleased to announce that 3 years later in 2024 I have managed to get that number down to... £61,757. Yes, after paying £300 out of my salary every month I now owe the @SLC_Repayment £200 more than I did 3 years ago.

@IanBarkerBFY It's branded incorrectly. Given the likelihood of paying it off before it's written off... It's just a graduate tax. Call it what it is, and the mindset around it will alter, debt vs. tax on a benefit. I believe It would also alter the approach to degree choice.

Again we’re seeing here the upside of compound interest through saving money vs the downside from debt. 8% interest while temporary does feel very punchy, and the mechanism of repayments feels ‘weird’ - 9% of income and it can also get written off… /13

@m_ashcroft @connerdelights You'll be horrified by the impact of a gas hob - particulates and CO2 etc. I'm pleased to say we did away with ours 4 years ago and haven't looked back- now an all electric London house.

@Riksmithuk @connerdelights yeah for now indoors = outdoors because I have big windows all open it’ll be interesting when winter comes in, might suddenly consider getting a dehumidifier also curious about what aerosols and indoor gas hobs do with windows shut

@m_ashcroft @connerdelights Humidity also looks very low and healthy for indoors. UK homes end up closer to 70% normally. Very relevant in winter in particular re: mould and spores etc.. then you can get into dew point etc

@ParentPay Hi Donna, thank you for coming back to me. As a user these email are critical, failure of the service = kids going hungry without lunch. Your tech team should consider this a critical failure and aim to understand why it took so long to identify and fix

Ok this is nuts… If, instead of buying each iPhone, you had spent that exact amount on shares in apple each time- your shares would currently be worth £22m!
