@CBCNews Stop calling it a teacher shortage. It is an occasional teachers shortage. There is no one to cover teachers when they are away. Saying teacher shortage makes it sound like there are jobs. There are no jobs, it gives false hope to those who think there are jobs to be had.

School boards across Canada are struggling to find — and keep — teachers. Educators are calling it a crisis, and they say efforts to get teachers into schools faster may have a negative impact on learning. cbc.ca/radio/thecurre… .

Teacher shortage has staff across Canada working 'in survival mode'. Schools are relying on non-teaching staff, non-certified teachers to wade through shortage. Very few people want to be a teacher. I wonder why?! #onted #edchat #cdned cbc.ca/radio/thecurre…

NHL players forfeit their pay when suspended for hits to the head but Gary Bettman, NHL Commissioner, decides four NHL players charged with sexual assault keep getting paid while they are suspended. A terrible decision by the NHL Commissioner.

@smorrisey We don’t give out any food at our elementary schools. At anytime of year.

This week, most elementary aged children ate tons of candy and cookies in school. It doesn't have to be this way. I made smoothies yesterday for my 5th graders. Kids loved it. Candy and cookies are not a necessary part of holiday weeks. There are alternatives.

@CTVNews Nice, but more useful places would be schools, community centres and food banks. The places where people may really be struggling to afford or get these items.

I think teacher pay has historically been low because initially it was a job typically done by women and their income was just seen as a supplement to their husband’s pay.

The Lambton Kent District School Board is changing its inclement weather policy to keep schools open when busses are canceled. I guess more #onted educators will be expected to risk their lives commuting to open schools for the 5 students who show up! windsor.ctvnews.ca/change-in-snow…

@NateJoseph19 I worked for a large school district that required teachers to submit typed lesson plans (in their pre-defined format) a week in advance, and also to post the daily lesson plan next to the classroom door. The teachers were under greater scrutiny than the students.

Something I thought my teachers college got wrong was their focus on lesson plans. I don’t plan lessons. I plan routines. My class has a morphology routine, a fluency/comprehension routine, a spelling and writing routine. It’s about creating habits for both me and my students.

Attention teachers! Quick question… How many days does your district officially give you to work on your classroom? #teachertwitter

@Teachers__Unite Maybe it is new policies that are still in place since all Covid restrictions have been removed. Ex students no longer move during the day. Only teachers can move from class to class. Kids need to move and they need difference throughout the day. Break it up.

"Are pandemic lockdowns, isolation fuelling increase in school violence?" Last year, schools were only closed for about 2 weeks, so it has been two years of "normal" school. Can the pandemic still be used as a valid excuse or is it something else? #onted lfpress.com/news/local-new…

@FredKirkey1 @ThomasWatsonCD All groups & I am not native. Of course people are discriminated against. Re enforcing equity, diversity and inclusion matter even more with our students. Teaching everyone to be accepting & tolerant doesn’t mean you need to follow in their footsteps it just mean be a good human.

@RimaFraser @ThomasWatsonCD If you think that, you are naïve. People are discriminated against "legally" in Ontario all the time. The law is only as sound as those who enforce it, and our legal system is currently run by ideologues. Do you "Celebrate" all groups or just a select few? Be honest!

@FredKirkey1 @ThomasWatsonCD So true and the politicians that have been voted in know that there are far more Ontarian’s who support equity, diversity and acceptance in schools then there are you don’t. Why do you think they are ignoring you.
