@ProtonVPN OTOH there's talk that the EU wants to ban VPNs outright, so there's that. Allegedly because of the age verification thing, but likely to prevent people circumventing EU social media censorship.

Bill C-22 empowers the government to order VPN providers in Canada to retain metadata for up to a year. The EU's highest court has struck down this type of mass data retention legislation twice already, suggesting it won't stand up to scrutiny: 1. eff.org/node/81899 2. ccdcoe.org/incyder-articl… We're going to reiterate this one more time: there is no universe in which Proton VPN compromises its no-logs policy.
David Peterson@davidgpeterson

Regarding Canada's Bill C-22: @ProtonVPN is Swiss. Complying with foreign surveillance orders without Swiss legal process is a criminal offence. Not happening. We'll defend our Canadian users and never compromise them. We will fight C-22's application by every means available.

@MichaelTaricani @QueenAnticommie If I see a sign like this I conclude that the restaurant is flat-out exploiting its workers. The sheer audacity of admitting it and trying to guilt customers into making up the shortfall!

@EP_EPRS @EP_Justice @zarzalejosj @MarinaKaljurand there's literally no possible way that 37 percent of facebook users are 12 and under, and also not possible that 37 percent of children 12 and under are on Facebook and since we can only verify the age of adults, how did you verify the users surveyed were 12 and under?

@bastlvb79 @ProtonMail I need this functionality as well. It's the one reason I'm not using Proton Calendar and have been forced to continue using Google Calendar. I don't see how it's a security risk to allow Proton Calendar (or mail) to import info from the phone's Contacts app.

Did you know you can add public holiday calendars to Proton Calendar? Choose a country, set a color, and they’ll show up automatically.

@ProtonSupport Currently Windows, but I'm planning to switch to Linux at some point and I'll need it there as well. Many websites that don't allow VPNs seem to use several different IP addresses and it just isn't feasible to add them all to the exclude list.

@ProtonMail Why can't I *send* from a simplelogin alias? That makes it so much harder to conceal my real address when I have to do more than click on a confirmation link that arrives by email!

An alias is a secondary address that forwards mail to you. End-of-year sign-ups, sales, and giveaways? Use an alias for anything that shouldn’t know your real address. If it starts getting noisy, you can disable it without affecting your main inbox.

@ProtonMail how can I send an image as an attachment in the Android app? It currently forces me to send them inline and this is Not Good Enough!

@catholic_comedy Owning my "no". The reason is simply that I just don't get on with communal recitations of repetitive prayers. I zone out and my mind goes everywhere but the prayer. I've got to pray it by myself to stay focused.

@johncwright2001 @lampwright4 This is what I was taught at school, but then we were also forbidden to use "nice" in its present meaning, and split infinitives were anathema. The overwhelming weight of usage meant that all those ships had sailed long ago even back then.

@lampwright4 Actually both are wrong. He is running and, one hopes, he will not fall. If he is running hopefully then he is the one who has hope as he runs. If I am watching him run and I'm the one who hopes he does not fall then I am watching hopefully.

Twitter(X) peeps, which is right? He is running, and hopefully, he will not fall. He is running, and, hopefuly, he will not fall. (This is just a made-up example, but does hopefully get commas on both sides?)

@cemkansu @veggie_eric Pull the other one. 🤣In what part of the world are academic standards so low that ANY amount of duolingo compares with 4 semesters of university study? Duo exists to serve advertising and ensure people never become proficient enough to move on from the platform. That is all.

Hi, head of product at duolingo here. We conducted lots of peer reviewed studies showing that duolingo is an effective way to learn a language (duolingo.com/efficacy/studi…). People who completed the beginner content in our courses had reading and listening scores comparable to 4 semesters of university study. PS. The cute graphics and satisfying sound effects are designed to help with the hardest part of learning: staying motivated and building a daily habit.

@veggie_eric Duolingo exists to serve advertising to people who think they're learning a language. It's against their business model to help you become proficient, because then you'd eventually leave the platform. Much more profitable to make it an addictive game.

@great2run Well run! I'm hoping for a short easy run myself this evening. Haven't been feeling quite right for a few days, so I've been giving my body some rest, but it's starting to get frustrating and I really want to get some miles in.
