For #FindsFriday a rare depiction of a tetramorph of the evangelists on a medieval seal matrix. This matrix is of unusual shape and belonged to Thomas of Ringleton (Kent), but found in Norfolk (@findsorguk NMS-AD5AAA). The evangelists' initials surround the composite creature.

This would seem to be a rather earlier depiction, perhaps dating to the 13th century, found in Suffolk @findsorguk

For #FindsFriday a pair of medieval images of the Assumption of the Virgin on artefacts recorded through @findsorguk. The seal matrix is datable to the first half of the 15th century, while the finger-ring is later C15th, if not early C16th (now @britishmuseum). #MedRit

@YORYM_FLO Just to add that the evangelist’s symbols tend to surround a Christ in Majesty mount on the reverse of the cross, the cross’ front showing the Passion. Their arrangement is standardised - this one being consistent with St Mark’s lion.

This mount is one of a set from a processional cross each depicting an emblem of an evangelist, Eagle of St John, Ox of St Luke, lion of St Mark, & angel of St Matthew. They were produced in Limoges, Central France, in the 12th/13th centuries. #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/database/artef…

For #FindsFriday some medieval seal matrices showing the Virgin and Child as Maria Lactans (rather than Sedes Sapientiae). That they show supplicant figures and (often) canopies suggests they represent statues from churches, perhaps shrines. Images: @findsorguk

#FontCover Assistance -- does anyone have photographs of the font cover in the churchyard of Charlton Mackrell, St. Mary, Somerset? I only have one, but would love more, especially any that show its base rim.

@RichardIIIGhost Possibly! It is very stylised, whatever it is - I was trying to work out the shape and I think possibly it needs to be viewed sideways!

A lovely curved shape now in Shrewsbury museum and art gallery - I lost my notes but I think it was in the Iron Age or Roman Britain space. I really liked it anyway so wanted to share #FindsFriday

This head from a Corpus figure of Christ was likely attached to a cross & was produced in Limoges area Central France. Around 1100 Limoges crosses & fragments made c.1150-1350 now survive representing c.1/10th those made (Campbell 2025: 35) #FindsFriday finds.org.uk/database/artef…

For #FindsFriday two apostle spoons, perhaps early 17th century: one identified as St James the Greater, the other as St James the Less @findsorguk. I like the haloes, with a wavy star and a dove representing the Holy Spirit, respectively.

Can't believe I've haven't offered you any Toast (of London) before. How remiss of me! Anyway, here's the opening scene of season 1, episode 4, entitled Submission, which is rather fantastic. As many of you will be aware, Matt Berry considers himself a musician first and an actor second. He's signed to the Acid Jazz label and has released about a dozen records, including an album of TV theme covers, including Sorry, Are You Being Served, Doctor Who, Blankety Blank, The Good Life and Picture Box, to name but a few. I have it downloaded, don't you know. The Blankety Blank cover's ace. Anyway, up periscope!
