Sad to see news orgs and the UK State now using “biological sex” - a term coined by the Religious Right Transgender Critical movement, with no standing whatsoever in medicine, because there is no one all-encompassing definition of what someone’s sex is. Sex is determined by multiple variables in all kinds of combinations.

@JakeLandauTO And why bother to pretend it’s an issue for the federal government when they only have four provinces in favour? Seven is the minimum for a constitutional amendment. They’re asking for Canada to sidestep its constitutional duty, which would seem like a bad precedent to set.

No, not really. Provinces love crowing on about their "exclusive jurisdictions". This is an exclusive jurisdiction of the Federal government. If they want to renegotiate the balance of powers, what do they propose to give up in exchange?
Brian Lilley@brianlilley

It’s crazy that provinces currently play no formal role in selecting judges appointed serve in courts over their jurisdiction.

@HenriAGS @brianlilley That particular group of four premiers may someday be assigned a memorable group name in history texts for the eventual consequences of their actions upon Canadian society, but I have my doubts as to whether it will be a complimentary one.

@brianlilley It's called "federalism", Lilley But if this is ok, then it's ok for the government to meddle in provincial purview, right? Right? Right!?

@mikethenavyguy The Order of Canada is no more monarchist than the flag. Both were created in Canada by Canadians in the 1960s to assert our nationhood. If anything, the Order is more overtly egalitarian, since it replaced British honours, including Knight/Dame, but does not confer any titles.

This is characteristically vile and predictably deranged, but the important thing to remember is that Trump never said anything remotely so negative or definitive about the death of his long-time best friend Jeffrey Epstein. And he wishes Ghislaine Maxwell well. Think about that.

@atrupar There are many, many things that you need in order to adopt a kid that are not required for voting; presenting your ID is probably among the very least of them.

Doug Ford is now falsely suggesting that he needs to exempt his government, office and cell phone from Freedom of Information requests by journalists because, in his words, “We’ve got to protect ourselves against the Communist Chinese that are infiltrating our country”. What a load of crap. Democracy typically doesn’t turn into autocracy overnight. It just declines, as the daylight of transparency and accountability is blocked out, and we’re left with nothing but darkness. We can’t let Ford get away with this.
