@SAVEtheTOMBOY Mae West took black burlesque queens' vamp, sass, walk, lingo, everything. Inhabited it to extent her historical sources were effectively erased: SHE was "all that." Al Jolson called for his mammy, and made a career. Elvis is king, and Betty Boop is white. Get over yourself.

"Diversity" casting is a historical lobotomy, and we have been operating under the gaslight for far too long. History is not a buffet where you rearrange the proteins to suit aesthetic preferences. There is a precise, visceral difference between a stylistic choice and a wrecking ball, yet society has lost the ability to tell them apart. We have been conditioned to mistake the erosion of our identity for “inclusivity.” People ask why Hamilton doesn't bother me, or why Morgan Freeman as God is perfect. The answer is context and archetype. Hamilton is a genre-bending theatrical experiment; it uses hip-hop and anachronistic casting to signal that it is a dialogue about history, not a documentary of it. It invites the audience into a stylized, creative space where the artifice is the point. Freeman as God works because divinity is a universal archetype; he occupies that space with a gravity that transcends ethnicity. But the "Helen of Troy" problem is different. When a studio casts a Black woman as Helen in a film aiming for cinematic realism, you aren't watching a stylistic experiment. You are watching the systematic erasure of a specific, ancestral reality. Helen is not a universal cipher; she is the face that launched a thousand ships within the grounded mythos of the Mycenaean Greeks. Her identity, down to the specific aesthetics of her people, is the anchor of the story. To swap her lineage is not an artistic breakthrough; it is cultural vandalism. If we strip away historical specificity in the name of "modernized" casting, where does the absurdity end? If Helen can be anyone, why not make the Cyclops a five-eyed creature from a distant galaxy? The directors wouldn't dare, because they know it would shatter the myth's internal logic. Yet they insist changing Helen is "progress." The double standard proves the agenda: they don't value the integrity of the myth; they value the power to overwrite it. The "inclusivity" argument is a polite fiction. They claim this gives others a "seat at the table," but you don’t build a table by kicking the original guests out and burning their chairs for firewood. If a filmmaker tried to "reimagine" the sagas of the Mali Empire or the epics of Japan with a cast of Nordic actors, the outcry would be immediate and justified. It would be called colonialist erasure. They would be right. This matters because a people without an anchored past have no compass for the future. When art is stripped of its historical specificity, it ceases to be a bridge between ancestors and descendants. It becomes a theme park: a hollowed-out, deracinated playset where identity is just a costume to be swapped. We aren't being "biased" for noticing the rot; we are the only ones left who still respect the integrity of the story. Ultimately, this isn’t about "representation"; it’s about the preservation of our own house. When we allow the foundational myths of our civilization to be gutted and repurposed as vessels for modern demographics, we are being reckless. We are signaling that our history is so fragile, and our heritage so disposable, that it can be discarded and rewritten the moment it becomes inconvenient for the social narrative. A people that cannot look at their own ancestral icons and recognize themselves are a people who have been spiritually disenfranchised. Once the past is rendered malleable, the future is no longer ours to shape; it belongs to the architects of the narrative. Stop settling for hollowed-out versions of your history. If we don’t defend the truth of our stories, no one else will. Stop apologizing for wanting our history to look like the truth. Start demanding that our culture reflect our own reality. If you don't hold the line, the history you leave behind will be a lie. Choose to remember who you are.

@Softnessa_ Zero evidence standards were lowered to hire black pilots. Opportunities widened via DEI brought us Tuskeegee Airmen. And more top quarterbacks. And Tiger Woods. And Barack Obama. Doors opened via DEI bring EXCELLENCE, not mere compentence. Compare the clown show in tRump admin.

@stevemur @caitlin_mmm Say an elder Iowa gent would like to surprise his wife on their anniversary with a lovely dinner featuring caviar he couldn't otherwise afford: that bothers you? Or is it your stereotypical vision of Lequita & Leroy scarfing down caviar that irks you? Classism, among other -ism.

Caitlin, since the founding of our republic, good people can and do disagree on what role the FEDERAL government should have in our lives. I’m one of the “losers” who thinks that SNAP and EBT should be focused on basic nutrition, and be targeted carefully at those who actually need it. I’m even in favor of expanding such subsidy on a per person basis once the targeting is refined. But caviar, lobster tails, gourmet coffee, Nespresso pods… should not be eligible.

I’ll never understand the losers that complain about what kind of foods are snap eligible. It’s so many words to say “I think poor people are beneath me and should thus be punished with fewer options.”

@athlonio67 @Julius_Kim All judgement call, subject to who believes what is "false" and/or what is "harm." If these FCC standards were being applied OBJECTIVELY, Kirk himself would have been taken off the air YEARS ago.

Should the government censor speech it doesn’t like? Of course not. The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the “public interest.” usatoday.com/story/opinion/…
