"I built a site in 2 hours with AI" posts are missing the point entirely. Nobody's arguing AI can't generate a website. It can. The question is what happens on day 31. Your developer is busy. Your marketing manager wants to update the homepage hero. Your content team has three blog posts ready to go. Who's touching the site? If the answer is "we have to wait for a developer" that's not a website problem. That's a business problem that isn't solved by AI. This is exactly why WordPress still powers 43% of the internet, not because it's trendy, but because it works for real teams over the long haul. A few things AI-generated sites quietly can't do: Look like you. Vibe-coded sites and no-code tools recycle the same layouts. Your competitors are launching the same "site" with different colors. Custom WordPress builds don't have that problem. Hand off cleanly. Any developer on the planet can open a WordPress project and know exactly what they're looking at. Try that with someone else's AI-generated codebase. Let non-devs take the wheel. WordPress was built around the idea that content people — not engineers — run websites. That's still true. Scale without starting over. E-commerce, memberships, multilingual, complex integrations — there's a plugin or a pattern for it. You're not rebuilding from scratch every time requirements change. Keep you in control. Your data, your hosting, your codebase. No platform deciding to change pricing or deprecate a feature you depend on. Speed to launch is a metric. It's just not the most important one. The sites that win long-term are the ones people can actually maintain, update, and grow — without the whole thing becoming someone's full-time job.

MT @neilpatel Where are people getting answers to their questions from? Search engines like Google still lead, especially as they adapt. But LLMs are a huge source of information and are rapidly growing.

I REALLY didn’t want to do this. But then flights got cancelled, visa applications got rejected, and some people who wanted to be at #CheckoutSummit in Palermo simply couldn’t make it. So I decided to bring those important WooCommerce conversations back. Checkout Summit {Reloaded} is the remote edition—two days of talks, insights, and real conversations with some of the best minds in WooCommerce, no matter where you are in the world. We go live this Thursday, May 7-8. If you want in, grab your ticket now before we kick off 🚀: checkoutsummit.com/reloaded

This is the part most business owners underestimate. WordPress performance is not just “hosting”. It becomes: unused plugins old revisions database bloat theme bloat maintenance work forever We moved our own agency site to Astro + Tailwind + static architecture for this reason. MT @natmiletic Your WordPress site doesn't slow down because of age. It slows down because you never delete anything. Unused plugins. Orphaned images. Database bloat from old revisions. Performance isn't a one-time fix. It's maintenance.

Dave Grey // Friendly Web Guy
This is my 10,000th tweet. To celebrate I'm offering an in-house website audit for up to 10 lucky people, using my (currently in-development) Website Toolkit. It'll check your public website pages for a variety of issues like broken links, missing mailto:, URL text not matching the page its going to, plus a lot more. Max 1000 pages. Handy for freelance site builders who have recently launched a new site, or established site's with a lot of older outbound links. Simply like this post, reply with anything (so I know you are interested) and DM me your nominated website + email address. RT it as well to be put forward for 1 bonus prize (no idea what that is yet, but something like 1 year of automated weekly site checks once the service has launched). Lucky sites will be randomly picked some point on Tuesday 5th May, with Website Audits run later in the week.

If your current setup has clients bouncing between three different platforms just to leave feedback on a staging site, it’s worth asking whether your hosting environment could be doing more of the heavy lifting. rocket.net/blog/which-col…
