St. Bonaventure is patron saint of Lyon, as well as of theologians, children, workers, porters, and soapmakers.

@nikomah95 You will surely survive this, just as I am surviving this latest estrangement. Besides, wrt this case, I followed my principle which you know well: I would rather be regarded as naive than actually be unjust. 🙂

Side note: Availing oneself of the canonical recourse against a canonical penalty implies, provided it is meant sincerely, that one submits to the judgment of the competent ecclesiastical superior (to whom the recourse is addressed) if he declares the recourse to have no merit.

@BreeSolstad PS: It should be noted that the Pope here also applies the significance of this "sharing" to the Incarnation of the Word, entirely in line with Catholic doctrine. The accusation that Christ is being reduced to a "spiritual guru" here is therefore also nonsensical in this regard.

@BreeSolstad It is undoubtedly certain that the Holy Father does not deny the supernaturally effected multiplication of the loaves (Here is the link to a sermon from which this is evident:zenit.org/2025/06/22/cor… ) Furthermore: The *sensus mysticus* of a scriptural passage is often manifold.

This is more modernist slop. The power of multiplying a handful of fish and loaves in order to feed thousands is far greater than the power of sharing with others. This is not controversial. Stop degrading the almighty Lord’s divine power and trying to make a spiritual guru.
Classical Theist ✠@ClassicalTheis

The Pope never rejected the miraculous nature of the feeding of the 5,000 but you know what? It actually is a far greater display of divine power for the grace of God to draw supernatural charity from the obediential potency of the soul than it is to multiply bread or fish

@BreeSolstad @Kern_Alan @ClassicalTheis Attributing an additional (!) meaning (or even *several* meanings) to a miracle like the multiplication of matter—beyond its outward physical occurrence, which is not denied—is an established, perennial element of Patristic teaching and has not the slightest to do with modernism.

The use of Gregory is misleading and more modernist slop. Gregory does not use the greatness of grace to dissolve a historical miracle into an ethical metaphor. His argument therefore provides no warrant for changing “Christ supernaturally multiplied food” into “the crowd discovered supernatural charity and shared.” “The Fathers agree” is also misleading. They agree that the conversion and sanctification of souls are greater goods than bodily benefits. They do not agree that the feeding itself was principally the production of charitable feelings rather than the supernatural multiplication of matter.

@BreeSolstad The Holy Father does not deny the supernaturally wrought multiplication of the loaves etc. (cf. the homily just cited). On the tropological meaning of the miracle—as cited by the Holy Father—cf. the famous (traditional) exegete Fr. Cornelius a Lapide: lapide.org/46_matthaeus_1…

@BreeSolstad PS: Perhaps in this context, since the historical miracle is reported in Holy Scripture, it is worth recalling explicitly the mnemonic for the fourfold sense of Scripture: "Littera gesta docet, quid credas allegoria, moralis quid agas, quo tendas anagogia."

@St_Peter_trad @GodFirstGroyper Well, let me put it this way: I consider it very amiable nonsense—and that is something I can actually delight in. As a half-Italian, half-Rhinelander (and whole Catholic), that is, so to speak, in my blood. 🙂

@St_Peter_trad @GodFirstGroyper The message of the artist behind this epoch-making video: cathood (personified as "Kitty") is socially finished, left behind ("done"); the viewer should take this to heart. Or something along those lines.😁

@LendHopeNothing Some apparently forget that the Church as such is a supernatural reality endowed with indefectibility—which implies, among other things, that while widespread abuses are possible, a fundamental ("de jure") departure of the universal Church from the depositum fidei is not.

There is a deep pride in the hermeneutic of suspicion, not wholly unjustified given a not insignificant number of scandalous churchmen, that drives far too many traditionalist discussions. If God preserved us through John XII, we will make it through this period as well.
Fr. Paolo D'Angona@RomanoSace57080

@FatherNaugle Popes insisted Vatican II must be read in light of Tradition. Since Modernism is radically incompatible with Tradition, claiming this postulate is made despite Vatican II containing modernist errors imputes either sophisticated malice or remarkable stupidity to these Popes.

@TaylorRMarshall @EricRSammons Exactly. These principia apply in matters (not subject to tutiorism, e.g., those related to validity of the sacram.) where, despite exercising the moral diligence appropriate to the matter, it is impossible to gain clarity—and here, only the Holy See itself could provide clarity.

Some wave away the SSPX excommunications because a few public canonists claim they are improperly worded (although other canonists disagree). Regardless, using that as an excuse to ignore the excommunications betrays a spirit contrary to Catholicism. crisismagazine.com/editors-desk/t…

@EricRSammons In practice, insofar as the Holy See does not consider further documents on this point necessary, (at least) one of the so-called principia reflexa (see the manuals of moral theology) would certainly apply here: "In dubio standum est pro valore actus" (the decree already issued).
