It’s time for a new member of Congress in Silicon Valley who prioritizes the advancement of technology and the continuation of the amazing job creation that the Silicon Valley ecosystem has produced for the last 25 years. Let’s elect a member of our own tech community, Ethan Agarwal. Go Ethan!!!
Garry Tan@garrytan

I support Ethan Agarwal against Ro Khanna Khanna has turned his back on the people of CA17. He said he would help tech, that his predecessor did nothing but name a post office. We would rather Khanna do that than work to destroy prosperity with national asset seizure.

Jobs called computers "bicycles for the mind" -- tools we could shape to our will. But they never were. Until now. Every morning an agent preps me for my day -- calendar, news, last 24hrs of Slack -- in a personal podcast. I made it by asking. Same for hundreds of other things. Launching @dreamer in beta today. That 🧠 bicycle, finally. dreamer.com

Americans are going hungry because Trump would rather throw a Great Gatsby gala than release the SNAP contingency fund to help families meet their basic needs. We know that’s the law because we passed it. California is fighting back: a BIG VOTE yes on prop 50 is how we start.

Climate change is an important problem we must solve through global collaboration, innovation, and continued efforts to reduce emissions. But we must put human welfare and resilience at the center of our climate strategies and funding. Read this very important memo from @BillGates to refocus our government and philanthropic priorities to help PEOPLE overcome the real challenges of a changing climate. gatesnotes.com/home/home-page…

Mayor @daniellurie is right! Under his leadership and DA @brookejenkinsSF, crime in SF is at record lows and the City is already working in partnership with state & federal law enforcement to get fentanyl off our streets. We don't need National Guard deployment in our City. It will only create chaos and further divide us, not bring us together to keep our City safe!
Daniel Lurie 丹尼爾·羅偉@DanielLurie

As your mayor, my top priority every single day is keeping San Francisco safe. With the support of local law enforcement, community leaders, and the appropriate federal law enforcement partners, we’re achieving that goal without compromising our values or our laws. As a result, violent crime has fallen to levels not seen since the 1950s, tent encampments are at record lows, and for the first time in years, San Franciscans believe our city is moving in the right direction.   There is no question we have more work to do. I ran for mayor because I see the impact of fentanyl use on our streets—when I drop my son off at school, when I talk to our business and community leaders, when I walk through the city in between meetings. My administration is working every day to make our city better.   Our local law enforcement already has longstanding partnerships with state and federal law enforcement to shut down open-air drug markets through our Drug Market Agency Coordination Center. To continue getting fentanyl off the street, we would welcome stronger coordination with the FBI, DEA, ATF, and U.S. Attorney to execute targeted operations, arrest drug dealers, and disrupt drug markets and multinational cartels. I trust our police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and district attorney to work together to keep our city safe—and with the right coordinated support from our state and federal partners they will have the tools to advance this critical work.   I am deeply grateful to the members of our military for their service to our country, but the National Guard does not have the authority to arrest drug dealers—and sending them to San Francisco will do nothing to get fentanyl off the streets or make our city safer.   Under my leadership, we will always protect the people and the values that make San Francisco the greatest city in the world. That means welcoming people in our city and standing up for every member of our community and for the longstanding policies that have kept our communities safe. As your mayor, that has been and always will be my north star.

Powerful and thoughtful words from a great philanthropic leader @laurenepowell in today's @WSJ. True philanthropy is about helping other people, NOT the donor! "The most effective giving empowers existing institutions, supports local leadership and creates space for communities to tackle challenges on their own terms." wsj.com/us-news/lauren…

I’ve had the privilege of getting to know @LiamFedus and @ekindogus, and few people are as impressive, ambitious, and deeply thoughtful about both AI and science. They bring a unique combination of technical brilliance and scientific rigor that gives them an extraordinary right to win in building @periodiclabs. Periodic’s mission of creating AI scientists and the autonomous labs they need to operate has the potential to transform how we generate scientific knowledge and accelerate scientific breakthroughs across materials design, superconductors, semiconductors, and beyond. The scale of the opportunity is enormous, from more efficient chips and power grids to progress in space travel, nuclear fusion, and more. Proud to back this team as they embark on one of the most ambitious scientific efforts of our time.
William Fedus@LiamFedus

Today, @ekindogus and I are excited to introduce @periodiclabs. Our goal is to create an AI scientist. Science works by conjecturing how the world might be, running experiments, and learning from the results. Intelligence is necessary, but not sufficient. New knowledge is created when ideas are found to be consistent with reality. And so, at Periodic, we are building AI scientists and the autonomous laboratories for them to operate. Until now, scientific AI advances have come from models trained on the internet. But despite its vastness — it’s still finite (estimates are ~10T text tokens where one English word may be 1-2 tokens). And in recent years the best frontier AI models have fully exhausted it. Researchers seek better use of this data, but as any scientist knows: though re-reading a textbook may give new insights, they eventually need to try their idea to see if it holds. Autonomous labs are central to our strategy. They provide huge amounts of high-quality data (each experiment can produce GBs of data!) that exists nowhere else. They generate valuable negative results which are seldom published. But most importantly, they give our AI scientists the tools to act. We’re starting in the physical sciences. Technological progress is limited by our ability to design the physical world. We’re starting here because experiments have high signal-to-noise and are (relatively) fast, physical simulations effectively model many systems, but more broadly, physics is a verifiable environment. AI has progressed fastest in domains with data and verifiable results - for example, in math and code. Here, nature is the RL environment. One of our goals is to discover superconductors that work at higher temperatures than today's materials. Significant advances could help us create next-generation transportation and build power grids with minimal losses. But this is just one example — if we can automate materials design, we have the potential to accelerate Moore’s Law, space travel, and nuclear fusion. We’re also working to deploy our solutions with industry. As an example, we're helping a semiconductor manufacturer that is facing issues with heat dissipation on their chips. We’re training custom agents for their engineers and researchers to make sense of their experimental data in order to iterate faster. Our founding team co-created ChatGPT, DeepMind’s GNoME, OpenAI’s Operator (now Agent), the neural attention mechanism, MatterGen; have scaled autonomous physics labs; and have contributed to some of the most important materials discoveries of the last decade. We’ve come together to scale up and reimagine how science is done. We’re fortunate to be backed by investors who share our vision, including @a16z who led our $300M round, as well as @Felicis, DST Global, NVentures (NVIDIA’s venture capital arm), @Accel and individuals including @JeffBezos , @eladgil , @ericschmidt, and @JeffDean. Their support will help us grow our team, scale our labs, and develop the first generation of AI scientists.

Really important to see @OpenAI under @sama prioritizing teen safety over growth. A good standard being set for the whole space. Setting the teen safety model as the default for users is a BIG deal. We can build AI informed by our values. That is up to US! openai.com/index/teen-saf…

Very powerful to see OpenAI announcing that they will be funding their not for profit IN EXCESS OF $100 BILLION DOLLARS. This is such a HUGE opportunity for California. To put that in perspective, it would make the nonprofit the second largest in the world (and as the company grows the biggest); Gates is at ~$50B (and does awesome stuff); the California Endowment is $4B. Big news. This comes out of OpenAI’s evolution of its corporate structure from a nonprofit over an LLC to a nonprofit over a public benefits corporation.
