Honored to officially launch the Youth Legislative Agenda 2026-2031, an important step in placing young people at the center of Uganda’s legislative priorities, skills development, and job creation agenda. Aligned with the NRM Youth Manifesto 2026–2031 and NDP IV, this Agenda seeks to transform youth potential into meaningful opportunities and strengthen youth participation in Uganda’s socio-economic transformation. Together with my fellow Youth MPs, the National Youth Council, and our partners, we remain committed to turning the Youth Action Plan into action and building an empowered, innovative generation. 🇺🇬

This morning, I joined the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, Ministers, the Managing Director of NEC, and other leaders at the NEC Headquarters in Bugolobi to officially flag off government-procured food relief for distribution to the most vulnerable households in the Karamoja region. This first consignment is being supplied by the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), following a directive and the goodwill of His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni to address the critical situation in Karamoja. I commended the UPDF and NEC for this timely intervention, which comes in response to the high demand for food security among our people. The government want residents in all 480 parishes across Karamoja to benefit from this relief initiative, with each household receiving 20 kilograms of posho (maize flour) and 10 kilograms of beans monthly for the next two months. Concurrently, my team and I are working on sustainable, long-term solutions. We are focusing on investing in grain silos and irrigation dams to support both small-scale farming and massive commercial agriculture, ultimately transforming Karamoja into a highly productive agricultural hub. The Rt. Hon. Prime Minister also informed us that several development and humanitarian partners are being mobilized to supplement these efforts. As government, we are warning to all personnel responsible for the logistics and distribution to restrain from any form of corrupt practices. This food must reach the intended beneficiaries. In the same vein, I urge our local leaders to be on the ground to mobilize communities and strictly supervise the entire distribution exercise.

It is with great pride that I join you today at the opening ceremony of this historic National Dialogue. This grand conference, which will bring together four thousand participants under one roof in the coming weeks, marks a historic opportunity for Ethiopia to obtain the “pen and parchment” with which to write a new chapter of its history by its own hand. We are at a moment when we can break the cycle in Ethiopia’s political journey. A cycle that begins with inflammatory rhetoric and ends in violent action, and replace it with dialogue and discussion. I extend my sincere gratitude to the commissioners of the National Dialogue Commission for their invaluable contributions toward making this important undertaking possible. This conference, which is founded on a bottom-up agenda-setting process involving hundreds of thousands of citizens, is a rare and remarkable event with immense significance in Ethiopia’s modern history. Through it, we have the opportunity to transform our challenges into opportunities and establish a lasting culture of peaceful transfers of power. Today, we are planting good seeds that will benefit future generations, and we are ensuring that our children will enjoy the fruits they bear. As we participate in this dialogue, if we set aside our local interests and deliberate for the sake of Ethiopia, keeping our children and their future in mind, the outcome will be truly fruitful. Together, let us cultivate hope, forgiveness, and peaceful coexistence. By resolving our differences through dialogue and reconciliation within our own country, let us safeguard Ethiopia from external interference. I call upon all participants to achieve a historic outcome; one that will benefit Ethiopia, serve as an example for Africa, and bring genuine peace and relief to all Ethiopians. May Ethiopia forever prosper and be honored through the efforts of her children!
