Good discussions on the margins of #CSW70 with @UN_Women Executive Director, H.E. Sima Bahous (@unwomenchief ) AU Special Envoy on #WPS Amb. Liberata Mulamula, and Hon. Justice Effie Owuor Co-Chair of @FemWiseAfrica. We agreed that advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda requires all hands on deck from prevention and protection to participation. Collaboration between the @UN , #AU, and @FemWiseAfrica is key, from policy to practice. Our shared commitment remains: women's full inclusion, coordinated action, strengthened protection for women in times of conflict, and ensuring change is real for women & girls across Africa.

I take this opportunity to congratulate Monica Juma on her appointment as the Executive Director of UNODC and Director General of UN Office in Vienna. Her stellar performance in the appointments bestowed upon her, with the most recent one being as my National Security Advisor and Secretary to the National Security Council, have been recognised beyond our borders.   Dr Juma has served our country with utmost professionalism and patriotism, given the best to all assignments tasked to her, which in return has earned her a place on the international stage.   I thank Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres for appointing not just a Kenyan but a woman leader and for doing this especially in this month when we celebrate women’s achievements.   Kenya is committed to multilateralism, and we look forward to our continued collaboration with the United Nations.   Hongera Monica for this appointment, and Happy Women’s Day!

Last night we officially launched our inaugural High-Level Executive Masterclass on Public Sector Innovation and Transformation for Sustainable Development under our Human Capital & Institutional Development (HCID)! Hosted jointly with @Wits_WSG, this programme advances the agenda for institutional resilience, digital transformation, and regional collaboration across Africa. In her remarks, our CEO, H.E. @nardosbthomas, set the tone with powerful conviction: “Let me tell you one thing, and I have seen it firsthand: in our continent, we have no shortage of talent. We have no shortage of ambition.” But she was equally clear-eyed about where the real work lies, in implementation. Africa’s development frameworks — from Agenda 2063 to the AfCFTA — set a bold and clear vision. Yet as H.E. Bekele-Thomas reminded us, “development frameworks must move beyond declarations to deliver measurable improvements in citizens’ lives.” Institutions do not transform themselves. Transformation requires leadership, skills, and new ways of thinking. With 60% of Africa’s population under the age of 25, and over 10 million young people entering the labour market every year, the urgency has never been greater. This demographic dividend is not just a statistic, it is a call to action for every policymaker, diplomat, and public servant in that room. Over the course of this week, ambassadors, senior government officials, and policy leaders from across the continent will engage with leading scholars and practitioners on issues at the heart of Africa’s development — from public sector reform and health systems, to financing, institutional development, and the transformative potential of digital technologies and artificial intelligence. The @WorldBankAfrica projects that the digital economy could add over $180 billion to Africa’s GDP, but harnessing that potential demands institutions that are agile, innovative, and led by people committed to responsible, inclusive policy. This Executive Management Programme is a key component of our Energize Africa initiative, an investment not just in skills, but in the networks and relationships that make continental collaboration possible. As H.E. Bekele-Thomas closed: “Together, let us strengthen leadership, build resilient institutions, and advance governance systems that drive Africa’s transformation and deliver on Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want.” The journey starts now. #PublicSectorInnovation #Agenda2063 #AfricaWeWant #DigitalTransformation #ExecutiveMasterclass #WitsWSG #EnergizeAfrica #AfricanLeadership #SustainableDevelopment

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah today joined Ethiopian Airlines at Hosea Kutako International Airport for the commemoration of the airline’s 80th anniversary, held alongside International Women’s Day, where she reflected on the progress made in advancing the rights and opportunities of women and girls while urging continued action to achieve equality across all sectors of society. Speaking under the global theme “Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls,” the President reminded those gathered that meaningful progress requires deliberate commitment and collective resolve. “Progress does not happen by chance. It requires action, determination and the collective will of societies to ensure that women and girls are given the dignity, opportunity and space to contribute fully to the development of our world.” Reflecting on Namibia’s journey since independence, the President highlighted the growing presence of women in leadership across national institutions and professional sectors. “Today we do not only have a woman President, a Vice President, a Speaker of the National Assembly, a Secretary General of the ruling party and a Deputy Chairperson of the National Council. We also have women leaders in business, medicine, engineering and aviation.” The President also recognised recent milestones reflecting Namibia’s continued progress, including the swearing-in of Lady Justice Esi Schimming-Chase as the first female judge of Namibia’s Supreme Court, as well as the Brave Gladiators’ victory in the COSAFA Women’s Championship. The occasion was further marked by the arrival of an Ethiopian Airlines flight from Addis Ababa operated by an all-female crew, highlighting the expanding role of women in aviation. “Their presence here today sends a powerful message to young girls everywhere that professions once thought impossible are now within their reach. The sky, quite literally, is no longer the limit,” the President said. President Nandi-Ndaitwah also congratulated Ethiopian Airlines on celebrating its 80th anniversary, describing the airline as a beacon of African excellence and recalling its historic role in bringing Namibia’s Founding President, Sam Nujoma, home in 1989 after years in exile. In closing, the President encouraged young girls across Namibia and beyond to dream boldly, work diligently and never allow anyone to define the limits of what they can achieve.

I thank Their Excellencies, the Heads of State of the East African Community, for entrusting me with the responsibility of serving as Chairperson of the EAC Summit for the next year. Africa must avoid what I call “Okukonesa” , the mis-cooking of the African Revolution. Historically, our weaknesses of disunity, poor leadership and failure to adopt science allowed the continent to be colonised. We achieved Uhuru (freedom). The next mission must be Umoja (unity). Prosperity comes from production and markets. Fragmented markets keep Africa poor. In Luganda we say: “Omuggo oguli ku mulirano tegugoba ngo.” The stick in the neighbour’s house cannot chase away the leopard. Africa must build its own internal market through integration. The East African Community and continental integration are therefore not optional. The mission remains: Uhuru na Umoja, Freedom and Unity.
