@look4landmesser @Alonso_GD “We lost a war” Yeah, like 🇵🇸 . “They were not Greek only” like 🇵🇸. The Turks invaded Anatolia & over time overtook the native population. Millions of Greeks were killed & expelled. You didn’t engage in terrorism since then with the aim of getting back what was once yours.

@Rowd_19 @Alonso_GD You clearly don't know shit about modern Greek history. We didn't "accept" anything. We lost a war. And no, the lands were not ours. They were *contested* by Greece as parts of the crumbling Ottoman empire. These areas were not Greek-only. We were roughly 1/3 of the population.

You take land and expel its inhabitants Eventually the children of the displaced people attack you So you take the land they are in and expel them again So their grandchildren attack So you take that and expel them too This is defined as “a democracy attacked by terrorists”

@look4landmesser @Alonso_GD “when we were occupied by Nazis”. The Germans didn’t settle Greece. The Turks took your lands and you’ve accepted it instead of demanding Smyrna and Constantinople back

@Rowd_19 @Alonso_GD 🤦‍♂️ Israelis had to coexist with Palestinians cause they couldn't expel them all at once however much they'd love to. Coexistence is what breeds resistance. In Asia Minor coexistence was no longer an option. When we were occupied by Nazis we resisted strongly, including bombs

@look4landmesser @Alonso_GD “because they couldn’t expel them all at once” considering Palestinian population growth you should consider that 🇮🇱 could’ve but chose not to do to Palestinians what 🇹🇷 did to Greeks. But had Israel done so - its security would be as firm as a Turk in Izmir. That’s the lesson?

@look4landmesser @Alonso_GD I claimed that after the Turks genocided y’all and took your ancestral lands you accepted it, begrudgingly or otherwise, and didn’t try to take back Smyrna by lobbing rockets at it or abducting Turkish toddlers. I don’t know if it’s noble but it’s certainly pragmatic

@Rowd_19 @Alonso_GD Sounds like you don't understand what you read. You claimed that we were noble enough to accept the clobering of the Turks and our displacement without resistance. That's total bs. We were defenseless, at imminent danger of extinction and had to leave. Survival is not nobility

@look4landmesser @Alonso_GD “We were heavily defeated in Asia Minor” So the Turks cemented their territory & existence by absolutely clobbering their competition to the point that resistance was futile. Sounds like an argument a rightwing Zionist would make.

@Rowd_19 @Alonso_GD You've missed the Greek resistance to the Nazis from 1941 to 1945. Also, you make bullshit comparisons. We were heavily defeated in Asia Minor. More than 1 million defenseless ppl were immediately uprooted & transferred to Greece to escape peril, there was no way to stay & fight

The iron dome is the equivalent of giving a school shooter body armor so that they are safer as they carry out their slaughter. It emboldens the colony by providing it the means to insulate itself from the consequences of its own violent actions. It is offensive in effect.
Guy Benson@guypbenson

Iron Dome (purely defensive) saves so many innocent lives and AOC is now apparently committed to defunding it. Wrong types of lives that system is saving, it seems.

@CoreyWriting I am conflicted. On the one hand, more pushback to an increasingly rightwing, unhinged Israel may be a good thing - for Israel! Stop the crazy train before it crashes. But to your point, I’m not sure intelligent, measured opposition to Israel is what we’re going to get

@ryangrim Thr story is that the terrorist was wearing an explosive belt, he was caught but they couldn't neutralize the explosive belt because he resisted. He was interviewed about it here: youtu.be/NOHH__72p_0?si… word כפות is being translated as “handcuffed” here but not nec. correct

@Gothtos @aradboaz overly vague? Seems not vague at all if you find evidence that someone was murdered because of their ethnicity. But settlers are fine with violence against people for being Arabs and their caucus in Knesset removed it accordingly

@Rowd_19 @aradboaz It was taken out because it was overly vague and likely unconstitutional. The law targets terrorist acts with a motive to negate Israel’s existence and that’s fairly reasonable and clear. Those who don’t commit terrorist acts with this aim will be fine.

@Gothtos @aradboaz Why was nationalistic violence taken out if not for the concern by the bills authors that too many Jews might be roped in?

@Rowd_19 @aradboaz Bills go through all sorts of linguistic changes and edits to withstand judicial review. The wording of the bill was changed after groups like Adalah voiced concern that it would result in discriminatory outcomes and so it was. What’s the issue?

@Gothtos @aradboaz So why not just amend the law to remove the need for unanimity? Why did the initial bill have reference to nationalistic violence but then it was removed?

@Rowd_19 @aradboaz It’s evident that lowering the bar by removing a unanimous 3/3 decision and replacing it with a simple majority and also removing the possibility of an appeal or commutation through this law is intended to permanently dispatch terrorists instead of giving them life.

@Rowd_19 @aradboaz I mean… elimination of Hamas is already Israeli policy. The death penalty has always been on the books, just not implemented. When Israel goes a week without an attack they should revist it. When will that be?

@Gothtos @aradboaz The courts that the same authors of this bill believe are “leftists” and want to neuter? Sounds like it would’ve been much easier to draft a bill that targeted Hamas and their ilk but that’s not what the authors went for

@Rowd_19 @aradboaz The intent is determined through the courts by a series of criteria. Presence of manifestos, communications, etc. that specify the actor’s goal is the elimination of Israel. Targeting of high ranking officials opposed to random violence. Organizational doctrine and affiliation.

@Gothtos @aradboaz Jihadists like being “martyrs”. One could reduce desirability of taking hostages by simply refusing to concede to swaps or applying DP to members of Hamas or PIJ. So why not just write THAT law?
English

Gothbug
Gothbug@Gothtos·
@Rowd_19 @aradboaz The benefit is that carrying out acts of terror against Israel will be punishable by death and thus disincentivized and reduce the desirability of abducting civilians in hopes of a ransom/swap.

@Gothtos @aradboaz and how exactly is “intent to end the existence” shown? I think Kahanists intend to end its existence and replace it with a Halachic state. But we all know in practice it will always be presumed a Jew doesn’t act to end Israel

@Rowd_19 @aradboaz No. Terrorism is robustly defined in Israel’s 2016 counter terrorism law. You not knowing what it entails is not an excuse to invent your own set of facts. The bar that triggers the death penalty now is that it must include the intent to “end the existence of the State of IL.”
