An Unpopular Opinion South Africans are a problem. Most of us are actually a hypocritical bunch of people. South Africans employ foreign nationals in their homes. Zimbabwean and Basotho nannies, Malawian, Zimbabwean and Mozambican gardeners. We take our shoes for repairs to Malawians, go to them to make traditional clothes. It is South Africans who rent out their houses, garages, buildings to foreign nationals to run their spaza shops, Pakistanis, Ethiopians etc. Except of course the hijacked ones which, in the case of Joburg, owners can't even be found. And Nigerians are the most culprits in Joburg. No one ever brings this up when we say Abahambe. To say, can the owners of these houses and buildings come out to account. I have had very uncomfortable conversations with someone I know. She is proudly xenophobic. She voted for Gayton's party in 2024 supporting the Abahambe campaign. Her workers, for many years, 15 years or so are all foreigners. The lady who cleans in the house is a Mosotho national, the one who cleans the cottages outside is Mozambican, the two gardeners are Mozambican. The two ladies also cook for the family. When I point out to her how hypocritical it is of her, it created some tension between us. But all she said was that she has encouraged them to build houses back home because there will come a time when they all must go back home. The screenshot I'm attaching, is of a chat with a guy who lives in an area which is made up of smallholding farms and plots. Their community WhatsApp group, made up of both Black and White people, is forever discussing crime that is escalating in the area. They were fighting for the place to be an enclosure with controlled entrances and exits. I was telling him why I left their group because I was getting irritated by their hypocrisy. In any case, I had also left the area so there was no need for me to read their complaints everyday when no one is prepared to address the elephant in the room. 🤷🏽‍♀️😏
