Classic Sci-Fi. Hoping not to waste too much time this go-around on pointless and unpleasant political debates.

@fandompulse @RMBee The common fallacy is that EVERYthing is available in digital & streaming form. I purchase physical media for two primary reasons: 1) Items that interest me, such as silent film or back catalog titles, may be deemed non-profitable, so unavailable for stream. 2) DRM is revocable.

Peter Jackson laments the death of physical media: “You can get Blu-rays and DVDs, but they’re almost a niche product for aficionados now,” Jackson said. “Since they only sell small numbers, no studio wants to put extended features on them or to extend the cuts. We did hours and hours of behind-the-scenes material for The Lord of the Rings DVDs, and so many people have thanked me for doing them. People would watch that stuff over and over again because it inspired them to make films. That’s all gone now, and I think it’s a real shame.” Do you still get real books and DVDs?

Court footage reportedly captured Henry Nowak’s final moments after he was stabbed. Lying on the pavement struggling for breath, Mr Nowak could be heard saying: “I can’t breathe.” He repeatedly told police he had been stabbed and was desperately trying to explain that something was seriously wrong. But instead of immediately treating him as a victim in critical condition, an officer told him he was under arrest on suspicion of assault. “I’ve been stabbed,” he said again. A male voice then allegedly replied: “I don’t think you have, mate.” Henry Nowak later died after his lungs filled with blood and he effectively drowned in his own blood while handcuffed on the ground. The footage is genuinely disturbing. Yet our Government and Keir Starmer refuse to even recognise this awful murder or mention Henry Nowak’s name. SHAMEFUL!

@RexQueQuondam @ScottMGreer As in, "Instead of us, the world's largest retailer, doing what you want, Mr. Salesman, how about you do these 9 things for us first and then maybe we will think about your proposition?" Except, they always said things more brusquely than that.

@Steve_Sailer @RexQueQuondam @ScottMGreer The Waltons are truly the world's richest family. Elon might top them on some lists, but his wealth is tied up in stock that would crater if he quit, died, or tried to liquidate in any significant quantity. (for example SpaceX is valued at 1.2T but has 20B revenues, 0 profit)

@Steve_Sailer @RexQueQuondam @ScottMGreer The reason Sam Walton isn't called a genius is that he seemed normal and was from Arkansas. He was so forward thinking that he made his four kids equal shareholders (20% each kid + himself ) in 1953 when the business was worth little. 1/2

@2haveandhavenot @charlesmurray There are always pros and cons, but I think Bezos has overall improved the standard of living of humanity. I'm reminded of a sign on an a bathroom door at Borders that was closing, "Sorry, this restroom is closed. Please use Amazon.com's."

Some intellectual quarrel with, "have made my life immeasurably better" vis a vis Mr. Bezos. Amazon can be argued to have degraded American commerce, and the value of 'tactile' purchasing. Otherwise, (and this may be a central distinction between two sets of human beings), if envy is present in your evaluation and feeling towards others, then you resent billionaires, just as you resent the pull-up champion next door. If you've never had envy of anyone or anyone's status or wealth, then you see their beautiful Ferrari, and you see and love the Ferrari. Envy does distinguish you from those without it.

Three men—Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk—have made my life immeasurably better. And yet they’re the bad guys. Are there billionaires who do not deserve their wealth? Sure. That’s a small price to pay for those three and the many other billionaires who enrich our lives on a less lavish scale.

@bradvanderwaal @charlesmurray @elonmusk He owns shares in companies that would be worth far less if he stopped working. It's essentially the market saying Elon himself is worth hundreds of billions to those companies. If he gave the shares away, their value would collapse. Sadly, most dummies think of Elon as:

@TonyIsHere4You @charlesmurray Economic illiteracy is a serious problem. Finance is invisible infrastructure. People see the delivery trucks, the iPhone, the shiny cars. They don't seen the loans, insurance, valuation, and risk management that put them there. But remove the financing, and none of it moves.

@charlesmurray The problem is not the people you mentioned, it's all the billionaires today that became that way through financial engineering, not actual wealth creation. This phenomenon has been the central factor in hollowing out the middle class in this country.

@nickgillespie The Robber Barons, along with Gilded Age, two of the worst naming conventions in American history. Neither accurately describe the times nor nature of the late 19th century and were invented by progressive historians to make the progressive era seem better in comparison

If I wanted to design an op to fragment, demoralize, and distract the Right it would look a lot like Candace Owens and Russell Brand asking whether Israel had secret control of Brigitte Macron’s penis and the rifle that killed Charlie Kirk.
Joe Rogan Podcast News@joeroganhq

Russell Brand: "Do you think… Israel is fundamental in even issues as seemingly diffuse… as Brigitte Macron's true identity and Charlie Kirk's m*rder?" Candace Owens: "Yes, I think it's all connected…"

Which animal do you think kills the most humans, setting aside mosquitos? Turns out it is snakes, by a large margin. 100,000 deaths per year. Dogs are second, at 40,000. Didn't know Elephants killed 1K a year! Sharks get a bad rap. But they only killed six people in 2023.

@dontsayrino @timecaptales I keep hoping someone like Elon (best suited) could come up with his own awards. Most mainstream awards, except for sports, are totally politicized and have been for decades. Far worse is when mediocre works are honored simply for ideological reasons. That is commonplace.

The argument against zeroing out taxes for the bottom half is that they would then have no skin in the game and any tax increase for the bands above them would seem to be a pure benefit—it’s always easier to tax some else. Result: higher taxes and spending, same problem as now.
Jeff Bezos@JeffBezos

Thank you. The important part is zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. Best way to put money in someone’s pocket is to not take it out in the first place. Bottom half is only 3% of total tax revenue. But it’s very meaningful to that person. Zero it out.

Seriously, the appearance genes in Australian Aboriginals seem to lean toward the recessive, so people who look like they are from Belfast can be somewhat Aboriginal by ancestry. It's kind of the opposite of being part sub-Saharan, where it's usually fairly easy to tell.
