@procurementfile @WokeWaste Pardon me because my maths are poor, but 15 x 85k (starting price of a Porche Taycan) = more than 500K. The British embassy must have got a heck of a discount.

The UK taxpayer paid £499,649 to buy 15 Electric Porsches for the British Embassy in Tirana- to be donated to Albanian Prisons.

@martinsisaac10 He would be there on his own.
When I served my life expectancy on the eastern front, it was less than 30 seconds. That was told to me at the recruiting office (when we had them).
English

@jomickane I, for one, believe. Ex British forces, and we are the aggressors here. Yes, if the Chinese set a missile base on the isle of white, I would be the first to target the installations. You don't pish through someone's letter box without reprisal.

Like a lot of other people i'd always believed that Putin was a bad guy. When all this Ukraine/Russia shit started i did my own research & it didnt take me long to find out the truth. Putin is not the bad guy. I dont expect anyone to take me word, just dont believe what the media tells you. Research what the people in Donbass went through for years before Putin went into Ukraine. Watch Ukraine on Fire by Oliver Stone 🙏

@Gettingcontext Well done to the Irish.
At least they have never invaded anyone.
Now, if Biden only listened to those in the US of Irish descent, things would be a good deal better.
English

One small platoon of Irish peacekeepers has refused Israel's demand to evacuate their post in Lebanon. Circa 300 Irish soldiers are not relinquishing their post. Unlike the Dutch in Srebrenica. 70 members of the platoon who were on leave before Israel's invasion wish to rejoin their unit. This is not bullshit 'breaking news' some of the big pro-Palestinian accounts push out so they can monetize your eye-balls, this is real and inspiring. Am sure the number of 300 was not done on purpose to evoke comparisons to the 300 Spartans under Leonidas, but some Spartan determination on the part of Europe would be much appreciated in halting the Israeli lunatic state irishtimes.com/ireland/2024/1…

@gpdixon @AmesTaylor_DA It was on the Beeb this morning. A reporter was in the grid control room telling us how this was a national resource and how its location is secret. The dog tag on the bulletin said live and gave the location!
Good old BBC reporting.
English

@RoyHowellJones1 @AmesTaylor_DA Not the whole NG. Just the Electricity System Operator. This was the plan. No idea if it has gone through. theguardian.com/business/2024/…

What is the government waiting for?
Let’s have a meeting about it. But first, turn the heating off, hold the meeting mid-December, hand out blankets and fingerless gloves, pump musty smells into the room and leave a window open half an inch to let the draft in.

@AmesTaylor_DA Excuse me, but did I not see an article on the Beeb this morning saying the National Grid had been taken back into public ownership for 650M?
So now all the profit from the standing charge goes back into govt coffers?
Time folk started getting angry.
English

I'm just thinking out loud. If Israel can put explosives in thousands of pagers in Lebanon, what else are they capable of?
It's not long since Pegasus software was found in German Govt mobiles.

@PaulOzNo1 I'm one of the stupid ones who hoped things might get better. Fool me once!
Tomorrow, I'm back to investigating the hedge fund operated bailiff companies.
Regards, mate.

@iwaslabour @simonmaginn @PhilipProudfoot I remember when Osbourne sold the first student loan book to Blackrock for 20p, in the pound, and then told us it was a great deal for the taxpayers.
Oh, and his advisor on the deal was Nathan Rothchild.
He even backed up the deal with guaranteed profits.

@PhilipProudfoot "Magic money tree" ?

Labour is still pretending the household is the same as the national economy.
There are many critiques, like the consequence of not spending in household vs national economy (having no avocados doesn't have the same consequence as having no hospitals) or where money actually comes from comes (my house can't print cash).
But perhaps my least favourite thing about that analogy is the strange idea of household finance it entails, which is basically everything on debit – wages in and wages out – with no investment using debt.
But households take mortgages, use credit cards, and finance kitchens. Households use debt to, ideally, make strategic decisions all the time. A new car on credit to reach a well-paying job. A mortgage for a house that might increase in value. Debt for household renovation. Or using a credit card for day-to-day expenses while keeping wages in an interest-bearing account.
Households, in short, invest – but the "household myth" is used to argue (incomprehensibly) for austerity.
It is simply ludicrous and journalists should be ripping them apart each time the analogy is drawn.

@MilesKing10 @RichardBowler1 Or more likely people can not afford to eat british lamb anymore.
Price it right and market it properly.

💥The Post Office scandal extends “greatly beyond” faulty Horizon software, according to a leading Lawyer for victims.💥
Paul Marshall, representing former Sub-Postmasters, says problems with 3rd party systems in branches, such as ATMs, have been "overlooked".
Barrister Paul Marshall believes, as a result, there are "no convictions" secured by the Post Office against any sub-postmaster "that could or should properly be treated as safe".
A 2013 report commissioned by the Post Office, and not made public at the time, states:
"Removing the ATM reduces the risk of (the sub-postmaster) being suspended... as does the presence of lottery tickets, (banking) services, and DVLA processing."
It indicates there were issues known to the Post Office with 3rd party systems within branches - separate to Horizon software.

@MichaelAD_Unite Exactly. You need real-life experience before throwing your hat in the ring. Otherwise, you are just another career politician.
Yet another case of stifled potential.
English

IMO as a Labour MP you should at least be old enough to have done a decent stint as a shop steward in a real job.
