They won't let you kill anything other than the fish you eat, so the predators that attack you will keep attacking you no matter how often you drive them off. It gets SUPER frustrating after a while. The devs sneering at people who just want a dang knife did not help.

I will tell you what happened.
You are not allowed to defend yourself against attackers.
It makes no sense to have a survival game in which you cant defend yourself.
People dont want to run away from attackers in survival games, people want to be able to fight their attackers to defend themselves.
If you are not allowed to defend yourself against an attacking entity in a survival game, than your game is woke and is teaching suicidal empathy.
This game is going to flop on full release.

@SurvivalGN It's not worth it right now, that's what. I'm glad I could refund. Game is still super early, barely any content. Performance is very rough. They have a lot of work.

On the official Discord, one player asked why killing is impossible in SN2 as it makes no sense. Level designer Artyom O’Rielly replied, “This is not a killing game, so go play Sons of the Forest if you want to kill.” Another developer said, “The team discusses this a lot inside the studio and may let players catch small fish for food, but large creatures will stay safe so the game feels right.” This idea comes from the first Subnautica, as the team wants players to discover things, feel wonder, and live with ocean life instead of fighting it. A fan-made mod already lets players kill creatures, and the studio is reading all feedback. It plans to add better ways to scare off creatures but will not add weapons. Early access is expected to last up to 3 years.

@helyearelyea Just saved me some money. I “had” an interest in Subnautica 2 but after that dev reply, nope. Unfortunately some devs need to understand a more appropriate way to respond to gamers, regardless if those people are being rude. As a dev, they are the face of that franchise.

Bit of a hot take:
I actually like Subnautica 2 more than the first.
Being able to kill leviathans with a knife made you feel powerful against an enemy that was horrifying and assumed to be unkillable
And thus, the fear factor could be reduced if you were skilled enough
Now? There is no fighting back.
There is no reduction of fear.
There is just you, the ocean, and it's inhabitants. And you look like a VERY appeasing lunch to them
I think that makes the game more terrifying, and in turn, much better.
Props to the devs, ya did good, me and my gf love your game and can't wait for the full release 💜

Subnautica 2 does not allow players to kill fish or other sea creatures using weapons or tools.
Unknown Worlds developers have confirmed no plans to add lethal combat mechanics in future patches.
Gameplay design lead Anthony Gallegos explained the game’s philosophy: “The tone of the game we’re making is that you are here to exist on this planet, not to dominate it.
You’re not the conquering colonist here. The goal here is not for you to master the world and bend it to your will.”
Players can still capture small fish for cooking. Defense relies only on tools like flares to distract predators and the multitool to repel creatures.
The studio is improving these non-lethal options in response to feedback but won’t add lethal tools.
Developers view this as core to the game’s identity and are not planning a combat-heavy experience.
