Bloomberg has the text of the bridge deal. It confirms our earlier reporting: there's no clause about money going to Canada's debt before revenues are split with the US. Only operational expenses like snowclearing are deducted. Story by @josh_wingrove bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

There is a lot of confusion about this deal. But think about it in 3 phases. Phase 1: For 15 years, Canada splits the net revenue with the US -- ie, the money left over after bridge expenses are paid. This is revenue Canada would have previously put ENTIRELY toward the debt.

Carney was asked about the bridge today, and it seems clear his earlier description of the deal was wrong. Debt servicing/repayment is not part of the bridge's expenses. It's instead taken from the net revenue Canada will now split with the US for 15 years bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

There are ~9000 times as many trees in Canada as people. Most of the forest is highly inaccessible, far from any towns or roads. Any sort of large-scale active forest managment is a fantasy in Canada, and firefighting is mostly limited to the small portion near inhabited areas.

The only reason Canada sends their firefighters and equipment here is because the U.S. taxpayers pay them. U.S. firefighters don't get paid anything by Canada.

When California was burning, Canada sent fire fighters, planes and assistance — not insults. I was proud to meet them, and to thank them, when they would break for dinner. As California and other states step up to repay the favor, we should do so without the threats and ramblings of a failing leader. We should show some humanity.
