@BBCr4today So let’s go for the State Pension again. Most people getting a pension have paid in for decades. The benefits system needs to be overhauled. There are far too many people on benefits. We also need to cut our overseas spending. The money that is given away each year is ridiculous

Labour is helping ease the cost of living for families by making bus travel free for children aged 5-15 in August. Helping parents save money over the summer holidays and ensuring our young people are not held back.

These are tough results for Labour. There’s no sugarcoating it. We’ve lost brilliant Labour representatives who’ve stood up for their communities. People are still frustrated. Their lives aren’t changing fast enough. We haven’t offered enough hope or optimism for the future. I was elected to change this country - tough days like this don’t weaken my determination to do that. They strengthen it.
