The Greenland ice sheet just lost 22 billion tonnes of ice by surface melt IN A DAY. Snowfall compensated less than half of it. This contributes to sea level rise… #FaceTheClimateEmergency

This event has generated the 3rd highest ablation rate (-12 GT/day) in the recent ice sheet history (from 1950). For a record surface melt production of 22 GT/day, 10 GT was absorbed by the snowpack thanks to the recent heavy snowfall. Temperature anomalies reached +13°C inland
