This is the sort of thinking that ruined the NBA. Create incentives to “load manage” the regular season and then whine about the quality of games and officiating. If a 24+ team playoff is all that really matters, it would be smart for CFB coaches to do the same. Incentives effect outcomes. There *are* special regular season games, defined by factors beyond a final score. Last year, alone, Miami v. ND, Indiana at Oregon, and Oregon at Penn State are just a few that were consequential and special.

CFB has always been about just having the best regular season record regardless of schedule to get the invite to the playoff. I’m not here to analyze human psychology and our spending decisions, but the numbers speak for themselves. Last I checked, surgeons don’t sell out arenas.
