Quibble only abt "self-regulation" because unlike Canadian law societies all regulatory decisionmaking of U.S. mandatory bars is subordinate to court or legislature.

Mandatory state Bars are not trade organization & not created to protect lawyers or for lawyers to act w impunity to the detriment of the public. Protectionist bars jeopardize ALL other bars ability to maintain selfregulation @WAStateBar @ABAPresident @natealder @DBRodriguez5

@margarethagan worth noting that in a minority of states lawyers regulate legal services, but in most states it's court rule or statute, not lawyers, that define the limiting regulations.

Innovation in #accesstojustice is being chilled because of how lawyers regulate legal services. People are afraid of getting sued by lawyers if they try to provide help with new staffing or tech models
