@SCAlbano

I enjoy writing fiction and poetry. See my site for that. I also enjoy learning and talking about religion, politics, and botany. 😆

If God knows the future exhaustively, and it’s set, Can he have real relationships? Or is he just role playing?

The miracles were signs. The seal certifying the Messiah. Disregarding that context, they are only food that perishes, distracting from the eternal: Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.” John 6:26-27

@XFreeze Neuralink is a much bigger breakthrough than most people realize. Enabling people to control a computer with their mind and the completely blind to see are Jesus-level miracles.

Why don't you like meatloaf? And what's wrong with meatballs? You suddenly hate Italy and Sweden now? Basically this is a tirade against prosciutto and IKEA at this point. If you lived through the depression, you would know they didn't have Fiats and directions to assemble furniture. Anti European rice cooker chauvinism. I see the way of it...

@SCAlbano Interesting! Sometimes I’ve heard comments that made me think certain people would install severe penalties for religious dissent even today in the US, if they could. But I’m glad they’re not able to currently.

@bomber_bookworm Yes, the God shaped hole problem. So, how does an Almighty being outside of space and time probe He exists? What is the seal He uses on the documentation? It is a communication problem. There is a solution.

I wouldn't say it just so, but the solace you note is one thing that spoils the effect. If the writing is the song, and your mind is the instrument it is played on, cosmic horror requires the instrument to be broken in a very specific way. Like a damaged music box eerily playing a familiar tune. If it is not broken, or broken in a way that does not sound unsettling, both ruin the vibe. Great writing, like Tolkien's, can be played to good effect across many sorts of instruments. The story itself changes with you, an entirely different song based on your current mind and capacity. I wonder if a similar work could incorporate cosmic horror as a superficial theme above the deeper and noble. (My apology for the quote post. Replies were closed for me.)

@SCAlbano Is cosmic horror—which lays bare the notion that the universe is merciless and cruel—a source of fear not so much for those who have faith, but rather for those who lack the solace of faith?

I only found it frightening before I became a Christian. It was frightening because it lays bare the consequences of nihilism and relativism in the irreligious. The little gods are only a stand-in. Cosmic horror is philosophical, not religious. It requires a big cosmos, not a small one.

Matthew's gospel (1:24-25) says that Joseph obeyed the angel, and took Mary for his wife, but he clarified that they waited until after Jesus had been born to consummate their marriage. You can disagree with him if you want, but it is unkind to mis-characterize those who accept his testimony.
