The key takeaway here is that: A. The SR-71 was amazing. B. Tomcats did what Eagles couldn’t.
Habubrats SR-71@Habubrats71

Eagle bait: There was a friendly, sometimes not-so-friendly competition between fighter pilots and SR-71 pilots. The fighter pilots didn’t like it at ALL that their airplane was not as fast as the reconnaissance airplane the SR 71. Fighter pilots would never join the SAC branch of the Air Force. They were bombers. Fighters were in another category. It was not until Colonel Jerry O’Malley was Wing Commander from 1972 to 73 fighter pilots were allowed to apply for a position in an SR 71. Colonel O’Malley while flying combat missions in Vietnam, earned a lot of respect from the fighter pilots. Colonel O’Malley was usually right about everything. The SR 71 program continued to get stronger and stronger as time went on and there were no accidents between the time period of 1972 and 1989. These men were competitive and there’s nothing wrong with that SR-71 pilot Dave Peters adds some interesting and hilarious details. ‘One of the interesting discoveries from those missions, especially the Eagle Bait, was that they couldn’t even find us when everything was shut down (Radar jamming)and we told them exactly where we were. It was then realized that the F-15 had a speed gate on its radar at 1500 kts. The SR-71 was casually warping along from 1850 to 2000. So, for them, we didn’t exist. THEY Couldn’t SEE THE SR! We flew them fairly regularly from about 82 and they were still doing them after I retired in 86. We flew the Eagle Bait with the F-15s and Tomcat Chase with the F-14s. The 14s could find us but they couldn’t do anything until we modified and gave them times, route of flight, speed, and altitude beforehand so they could have a pre-planned setup. The 15s didn’t do that well for quite some time. Another mission we flew that was interesting was to come in over the California coast at speed and altitude to give the air traffic controllers an idea of what they would see on a space shuttle approach. ‘There was some animosity at first with both the Eagles and the Tomcats because they kept accusing us of not showing up. Because we were on the same frequency with them and could listen to all the bitching because we didn’t show up. They got a little huffy because nobody told them we weren’t coming.’ But of course, the SR-71s were there they just couldn’t see them. Thank you to Dave Peters SR 71 pilot. Linda Sheffield

This is the most remarkable example of a country thwarting China's bullying tactics. Chinese vessel illegally trespassed in Argentinian waters, Argentinian Navy simply sunk the boat! Giving a befitting reply could be as simple as that.

The end of the F-14 Tomcat: The iconic 'Top Gun' jet is officially extinct from the skies. The Grumman F-14 Tomcat, immortalized by the 1986 film "Top Gun," has officially reached the end of its operational life as of March 2026. While the United States Navy retired the iconic jet in September 2006, the last remaining active fleet operated by the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force was reportedly destroyed in early March 2026.

Grass covers approximately 40% of the Earth's land surface. Humans cannot digest grass. Ruminants can. This is not a coincidence. This is the entire point. There is a vast, distributed, solar-powered system for turning inedible plant matter into dense protein and fat, and it runs on four stomachs and several billion years of microbial evolution. We did not create this system. We inherited it. The argument that we should replace it with a supply chain involving synthetic fertiliser, container shipping, and texturised soy protein is an argument that we have improved on the design. We haven't.

The first time I abandoned a girlfriend in the mountains was an accident. We had an argument about something trivial, and she decided to go off on her own for a bit to cool down. I insisted she stick to the trail, but she said she didn’t need me mansplaining how to find her way in the woods. So I dropped it. How does one manage to get lost on a mountainside, anyway? You just walk downhill until you hit a switchback or reach the valley. Common sense stuff. Well, she managed it. When she didn’t turn up by nightfall, I contacted the ranger station and they set out to find her. By 1am, I got tired of waiting and drove home. They called the next morning to say they’d found her in a makeshift den she’d dug beneath a deadfall. She was naked, gone completely feral, her face painted with menstrual blood. A ranger tried to wrap a blanket around her shoulders, and she bit a golf ball-sized gobbet of flesh from his shoulder. So they sedated her and took her straight to the nearest hospital. That was three years ago and she still hasn’t recovered human language. Needless to say, I acquired a taste for it. I’m up to a baker’s dozen now, not counting the one that found her way back to the car before I could drive off. But you never forget your first. Sarah will always have a special place in my heart.
