Intro: I am a new storm chaser based in Southeast Queensland. I have only been chasing storms for several months now, but have been forecasting for more than a year. My ultimate goal is to provide early warnings for severe weather as well as capture their beauty.

On March 9th this year a rather interesting setup took place in QLD Australia A remnant low provided plenty of deep layer and low-level shear in an environment of decent buoyancy around 1300 J/kg SBCAPE and 100 J/kg of 3CAPE. This scar is likely the result of a tornado.

Some radar screenshots that line up with the damage path almost exactly - the scar is also only visible after this date (9th march 2026)

Today was absolutely wonderful. I was able to score a tornado a day before my birthday, which is tomorrow and I’m freaking happy right now. This is also my first ever Arkansas tornado as well. #wxtwitter

Final post of the rope tornado that occurred yesterday. Here’s an edited shot of this beautiful tornado.

Fortunately, today turned out to be a MAJOR Bust for Tornadoes. There was NOT a Tornado Outbreak. In Total, there was only 2 Tornado Reports, on a Moderate Risk day. As Meteorologists, we always have to look back and examine what we could have done better. And we have to take responsibility when things don't pan out. That's how trust is built. And in this case, we got this one wrong. I got this one wrong. Our job is to communicate the most likely scenario based on the data, and today one of the leading possibilities was a higher end Tornado Outbreak along the East Coast. But that didn’t happen. Instead, morning rain stabilized the atmosphere, and even though the wind shear and spin in the atmosphere were off the charts, the instability and storm fuel just never showed up. When that happens, storms struggle to produce Tornadoes. Every forecast bust is an opportunity to learn and improve, and that’s exactly what I intend to do. I’ll keep studying this setup and work even harder to get the next one right. Sincerely, Meteorologist StormCat5
