BIG JUDGMENT | Bombay High Court ⚖️
The Bombay High Court has made an important clarification on maintenance law:
A husband’s high salary does not automatically translate into a fixed or proportionate maintenance amount.
Justice Manjusha Deshpande held that maintenance cannot be decided on income alone. Courts must assess:
Actual needs of the wife and children
Reasonable expenses
Standard of living
Supporting evidence on record
There is no salary-percentage formula under Indian law.

“No Means No” is a principle for every gender — but in India, laws apply it to only one.
This isn’t justice, it’s politics.
We stay silent while the system openly treats men as second-class citizens:
1. Courts say “Beg, borrow or steal, husband must maintain wife” — even when she is educated & capable of earning.
2. A man cheated financially, emotionally or sexually by a woman gets no legal protection.
3. 1–2 instances of wife’s adultery aren’t considered adultery — yet she can claim alimony.
4. A husband is told to maintain a child born from wife’s illicit affair.
5. Fathers are blocked from access to their own children, forced to meet them under humiliating conditions.
6. Male rape victims cannot report, because law recognises rape only when woman is victim.
7. Domestic violence against men isn’t recognised, because law protects only one gender.
