Between this and Deon Coles 'joke' at the NAACP I truly believe the understanding of Tourettes has been fundamentally damaged and demonised by those who cannot relate to any situation they themselves have not experienced.
I didn't choose to have Tourettes, I didn't choose to be bullied in school, locked in cupboards, beaten up, and shunned. Why would anyone? And yet this 'sketch' implies I was faking my whole life for attention, or to just get away with saying something.
I spent 25 years of my life pushing education to reverse that very notion when people thought of the condition. All for naught it feels like now.
Tourettes is a documented, medically studied and proven condition that is a neurological and physical difference in the brain. It took me years to come to terms with I would never be able to cure what I have. Myself and others with Tourettes should not have to deal with ignorant idiots like this who can't get the simple fact we can't control our condition through their own minds.
This has moved past the incident at BAFTAs now and has become something much much worse that is targeting people with Tourettes.

It's been a long time since I have seen this clip of me from back when I was 8 and I won't lie watching it back is still distressing to this day.
If I could go back I would tell myself, don't worry it will get better.
I hope though the clips resurfacing from the documentaries myself and John appeared in will help spread more awareness and education on Tourettes and help bridge the gap in understanding that it's obvious there still is.

This is how Tourette's can impact the people who live with it. I'm sure demanding that they issue relentless apologies for their tics would be a massive help, right?
