@Hrushworth Unfortunately that won’t work, my phone got stolen, I went to the police with the find my location from Apple, and was told that the police “didn’t have the resources” to go there and investigate.

Just a thought, but surely it wouldn’t be hard for Apple, Google… to have a system that when you wipe your phone & mark it as lost in find my friend, it will share the location with police from that point on. Becomes obvious for law enforcement if there’re hundreds in one place

Here's the arrest of the Afghan phone gang thought to have handled mobiles valued at £181 million. A warehouse containing 3,000 handsets was found by a victim using a 'Find my Phone' app courtnewsuk.co.uk/afghan-gang-ha…

You cannot buy a new gas turbine until 2030. Order books at GE, Siemens, and Mitsubishi stretch to 2029. Turbine prices have nearly tripled since 2019. Every AI data center needs power and every gas plant needs a turbine. And every turbine has one part that bottlenecks the entire industry: The blade. It has to survive in gas 500°C above the melting point of the metal it's made from and spin at up to 20,000 RPM under 10,000 g of centrifugal force. Each blade is grown as a single crystal of nickel superalloy, pulled through a vacuum furnace at 3 mm per minute. A set of blades costs $600,000 and takes 90 weeks to grow. The same metallurgy powers modern jet engines. Only 3 companies on Earth can build one. China spent $42 billion trying to catch up. They bought a Russian fighter engine, took it apart, and copied every part. Their copy ran 30 hours between overhauls versus 400 for the original. Modern Western engines run 4,000. You can reverse engineer the shape of a turbine blade. You cannot reverse engineer 60 years of metallurgy.

Used starlink on a @British_Airways flight recently and it’s basically magic. Imagine flying 40k feet in the air travelling 700mph and getting fast internet!! There is no limit to human ingenuity.

📽️ From Donald Trump to Britain's wind power trade body, there's a growing coalition calling for more drilling in the North Sea. Raising the question: if we DID encourage more exploration, how much oil & gas could we actually get? Our MEGA primer on the North Sea👇 Ps it's longer than usual, but it turns out this topic has SO MANY misconceptions. Time to put some of them right. Let me know what you think

@rcolvile I don’t even mind services being mentioned as free, what annoys me is when it’s given to assume the local politician is funding it out of his/her own pocket. See example

So I've got a ticket for tonight and I now can't make it and I can't forward it. Is there anything I can do here or due to the modern world of football ticketing, will the seat remain unnecessarily empty?

@tomhfh This is the Hong Kong MTR model, public transport subsidised by land holdings and commercial buildings owned by MTR corp, it’s a win win as it allows building in high density, accessible areas, and allows the public to have cheap fares.

Where Crossrail (Lizzy Line) stations went land value skyrocketed. Other countries capture the uplift in land value created by new transport infrastructure to pay for that transport infrastructure. There’s no reason why Crossrail 2 can’t be largely self funding. Let’s build it.

The numbers say it all. Every one of the UK’s top 10 most popular stations is in London, with many powered by the success of the Elizabeth line. Proof that when you build world class rail, people choose it.

The decay of basic infrastructures in Britain: So many road drains aren’t being regularly cleared by local councils. It’s not a surprise that road flooding occurs. We pay our increased council taxes but without getting the basic essentials of local infrastructure maintenance.

@paullewismoney Are we allowed to ask the government where the £600 is being spent? Public services and healthcare is getting worse every day, and taxes only go up. Doesn’t the root cause need to be targeted first?

Why are intelligent high earning people so bad at arithmetic? If I am asked to write something for £1000 and I pay tax of 60% on that fee I am £400 better off than if I say ‘no thanks there’s no incentive to do it’ bit.ly/4p84RhN just do the job work harder and pay the tax!
