@Hrushworth Unfortunately that won’t work, my phone got stolen, I went to the police with the find my location from Apple, and was told that the police “didn’t have the resources” to go there and investigate.
English

Just a thought, but surely it wouldn’t be hard for Apple, Google… to have a system that when you wipe your phone & mark it as lost in find my friend, it will share the location with police from that point on.
Becomes obvious for law enforcement if there’re hundreds in one place

You cannot buy a new gas turbine until 2030. Order books at GE, Siemens, and Mitsubishi stretch to 2029. Turbine prices have nearly tripled since 2019. Every AI data center needs power and every gas plant needs a turbine. And every turbine has one part that bottlenecks the entire industry: The blade. It has to survive in gas 500°C above the melting point of the metal it's made from and spin at up to 20,000 RPM under 10,000 g of centrifugal force. Each blade is grown as a single crystal of nickel superalloy, pulled through a vacuum furnace at 3 mm per minute. A set of blades costs $600,000 and takes 90 weeks to grow. The same metallurgy powers modern jet engines. Only 3 companies on Earth can build one. China spent $42 billion trying to catch up. They bought a Russian fighter engine, took it apart, and copied every part. Their copy ran 30 hours between overhauls versus 400 for the original. Modern Western engines run 4,000. You can reverse engineer the shape of a turbine blade. You cannot reverse engineer 60 years of metallurgy.

@dylantaylor84 @British_Airways Consider yourself lucky. My window shades didn’t work on a 10 hour flight, all I got was an apology email 😢
English

My in flight entertainment didn't work the entire 11 hour flight on @British_Airways , so they offered me £20 voucher. 🤣 does that even buy a water these days ?

@SNJ_tweets @British_Airways Other airlines have had internet for years

Used starlink on a @British_Airways flight recently and it’s basically magic. Imagine flying 40k feet in the air travelling 700mph and getting fast internet!!
There is no limit to human ingenuity.

📽️ From Donald Trump to Britain's wind power trade body, there's a growing coalition calling for more drilling in the North Sea.
Raising the question: if we DID encourage more exploration, how much oil & gas could we actually get?
Our MEGA primer on the North Sea👇
Ps it's longer than usual, but it turns out this topic has SO MANY misconceptions. Time to put some of them right.
Let me know what you think

@Markmanson Fully justified, the management of it is a

Where Crossrail (Lizzy Line) stations went land value skyrocketed.
Other countries capture the uplift in land value created by new transport infrastructure to pay for that transport infrastructure.
There’s no reason why Crossrail 2 can’t be largely self funding. Let’s build it.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan@MayorofLondon
The numbers say it all. Every one of the UK’s top 10 most popular stations is in London, with many powered by the success of the Elizabeth line. Proof that when you build world class rail, people choose it.

@JamesMelville This is the state of the pedestrian subway near my place in Hendon. It’s a heavily trafficked path due to a school nearby and restaurants etc. council doesn’t seem to care.

English

@paullewismoney Are we allowed to ask the government where the £600 is being spent? Public services and healthcare is getting worse every day, and taxes only go up. Doesn’t the root cause need to be targeted first?

Why are intelligent high earning people so bad at arithmetic? If I am asked to write something for £1000 and I pay tax of 60% on that fee I am £400 better off than if I say ‘no thanks there’s no incentive to do it’ bit.ly/4p84RhN just do the job work harder and pay the tax!
