So I revisited this. Specific HFA's above the national average that are measurable in outcomes for the most part don't exist and the stadiums listed in EA Sports 25 certainly aren't measurable after accounting for the home team quality. sabinanalytics.com/blog/2024/07:c…
Paul Sabin@SabinAnalytics

While at ESPN one year I tried to estimate a stadium HFA by modeling EPA/play with specific effects for school stadium and team… almost none of these types of venues were at top.. Good teams win at home and have fans bc they’re good, not bc their stadium is harder to play at

Since I'm not @espn anymore, I am only speculating here but it seems to me that people are increasingly using the "smart" bracket to simulate via BPI/ESPN Analytics. Public picked Duke, UM, & UF very close to BPI #. Public higher on Arizona, lower on Houston.

. @Marriott what is the point of Titanium status for a global brand if I can’t change my reservation without a fee to another place because I didn’t do it by the day before a drug cartel ran rampant at that location?

@tejfbanalytics Except it should not blend any power ratings. All for the big tens model because it’s more like the NFL. I don’t care if a really good team gets left out because they lost a couple close games… that’s how every other sport does it.

the college football playoff committee has the almost impossible task of blending résumé with power ratings and then somehow factoring in head-to-head on top of that the head-to-head element is what makes it very difficult as the games do have to matter but it’s pretty arbitrary on how close teams have to be ranked to be swapped off of head-to-head
Nicole Auerbach@NicoleAuerbach

Texas is still a few spots behind Vandy, and now USC is now a few spots behind Michigan. So, we’ve got a number of H2H results that the committee is ignoring now.

A problem with defining "best" as a reflection of pred. point spread is that assumes point spreads map to win probability the same for all teams... and I just don't think that's true. Modeling win probability directly would yield different results than pt spread.

Any system that makes it more clear that any team can earn their way just by winning has my vote. I don’t care if there are blowouts… doesn’t stop people from loving march madness. We salivate over a 8v9 even though neither has a realistic chance of winning it all.
Ross Dellenger@RossDellenger

For about two months now, the Big Ten has socialized a 24-team concept that would grant 4 AQs to each of the four power leagues, 2 to the highest-ranked two non-power league champions and 6 at-large selections - a 4-4-4-4-2-6 concept written about here bit.ly/4gJti1U

Latter-day Saints feel positively towards other Christian group in the US, but the reverse is not true. Very Christlike, I’d say.

@QuinnsWisdom Yes, I know but "good" doesn't always have to be to the right, but number lines go to the right :)

@BYUbluThru Knowing inside baseball here better than everyone, likely the show producer/researcher looked up the number, made a graphic likely the day before. They have access to an internal tool where they could select results to get a more up to date which they didn't before showing.
