@MixtoneXD @Grummz nah, most of that money will go for dei hires. I wouldn't be surprised if these huge budgets are because of staff salaries.

Studios today can literally and realistically make an entire game for 100 million. Now, with new tech, most of that budget will be for heavy marketing. If the studios are smart, they will not go over for any reason; they will continue to fine-tune and listen to their audience for feedback on their titles. Today's AAAs are, in fact, not doing that, hence the crap the industry is in now.

Well, Forbes just confirmed that Marathon cost $250 Million to make. Throw in marketing and you are close to 400-450 million by AAA standards. Concord was also $200 Million to make. so another 400. Sony isn't going to shut down Marathon because execs would look really stupid losing nearly a billion dollars to hero and extraction shooters twice in a row. But this is a unmitigated disaster. In what world do extraction shooters cost 200M to make? All of Destiny 1 was 185M in adjusted dollars, and that was a huge game. Budgets in AAA are obviously out of whack, and it was during Covid that team sizes ballooned for no good reason except the money was flowing. They expected the returns and growth to keep going, it never did. Covid demand was a peak, not a trend, driven by lockdowns (bored people played games) and stimulus money. AAA studios must downsized and do so quickly. AA and Indie games have shown you can deliver superior returns for 1/10 to 1/20th the cost. But more than that, it's time to listen to the chuds if AAA wants to survive.

@Meepulous77 @Grummz People don't criticize Marathon for being 'woke'. They criticize how out of touch they are with their consumers (marathon was a beloved fps series exclusive to apple computers and extraction shooters are very niche).

@Grummz Never played Claire Obscure, but I like HD2, CD, Palworld, SB and SM2. Marathon is actually fun, the gunplay is solid, and not woke, idk where this "owning the chuds" came from with this game. And just so nobody says I'm lying.
