100% and beyond the need to offer a socialist option in the presidential it will be a huge booster to down-ballot DSA candidates including for congress. We do need more of a DSA bloc in congress to accomplish our agenda but the way to build it is with an exciting national race!
Hot Take Sommelier (Punished)@KraushTakes

The obvious fact that a lot of socialists are tiptoeing around is that we need to intervene in the 2028 presidential election, and AOC is the obvious best candidate. If DSA doesn't endorse her, what are we doing here?

@hoosier_cs Also when in doubt if you really need numbers text/phonebank people and do individual asks. It takes longer than posting in a chat but you can get a better sense of individual people’s availability and interest (someone might not want to do this but could do another ask)

@hoosier_cs That’s really frustrating I feel you. I will say I’ve found people tend to have more investment in chapter organized events than in external community events that get plugged in meetings/chat. If your chapter is running a campaign then engagement there is a better indicator.

The @NYCCouncil had not passed a bill with fewer than 26 Democrats for decades until today. 175B is an extreme bill that targets potentially “any building.” Instead of pulling it, @SpeakerMenin worked with Republicans to pass it. @UAWRegion9A calls on @NYCMayor to veto 175B.
Brandon Mancilla@mancillabrando

We @UAWRegion9A strongly oppose 175-B. This bill has a chilling effect on protest and picketing at educational institutions. If it had been law today, it would have limited our powerful pickets to win @CfuUaw’s historic agreement. City councilors: vote no. psc-cuny.org/news-events/hi…

@OrganizerMemes This! We have 2 out of the 5 wards in Ithaca which are majority students each with 2 aldermen (4 out of 10 on council) and our YDSA chapter has been slowly getting our members and allies elected to those seats. Students can make a difference in local politics if we’re organized!

In my college town the students were a deciding vote when they turned out in local elections but nobody knew anything about local politics. Id post my endorsements which were widely used and I basically got to decide the makeup of the city council and they were so nice to me
NICK@nickrgrs

fun fact: if u donate a few grand to your local city/town councilors election campaign u can have them on speed dial to help u with basically anything u need locally

NYC-DSA is only as successful as we are now because we've been building, expanding, and improving our electoral project for almost a decade. Constant trial and error, intentional leadership development, entire systems built from the ground up. Now it's time to do that everywhere.
Mallory@MalloryMovies

i think a small but not-insignificant problem on the left right now is that everyone wants to be AOC/Zohran but if you want to make more AOC/Zohrans you kinda need to make a bunch of Julia Salazars and Jabari Brisports and Phara Souffrant Forests first!

@ColeSandick Shoutout Inwood! We have the last old growth forest in Manhattan (Inwood Hill Park) plus a museum that’s a castle with medieval art (Cloisters).

NYC friends! We need to move apartments in the next 2-3 months (ugh), and I'm curious what you think are the most awesome + under-hyped neighborhoods? We currently live in Fort Greene and love it, but supply is low (and prices are crazy) so we want to cast a wider net.

@plantbasedagony Cool! Is the difference from GW then mostly about tolerating diversity of tactics? That seems to mostly be what others are frustrated about with GW not being ok with other tendencies doing their own things.

@SamPoole_NY regenerate supports electoral campaigns and our points of unity actually declare our support for legislative reforms that can slow the effects of climate change and reform our electoral system, buying us more time and making it easier to build a fighting ecosocialist party!

steve has me blocked but yes regenerate is an ecosocialist caucus in (for now!) TCDSA, but we have supporters in chapters across the country! we are actively considering how to organize these comrades in their own chapters :)
sophia@yungsaperstein

@trash_panda97 @obus_r @alexeigannon if you’re interested in a cooler version without the toxicity, check out @RegenerateTCDSA and talk to @plantbasedagony about maybe taking Regenerate national (if that’s something they’re cool with!)

@trash_panda97 @alexeigannon @gyrewidener Do you have any sense of how it there? Genuinely the theory of GW seems really cool ecosocialism, electoralism, issue pressure campaigns and from my sense of their history they seem cool (NYS Build Public Renewables work) but how did the culture end up that way?

@alexeigannon @gyrewidener that would totally fine! like it’s totally possible to have a caucus with the politics of GW that doesn’t also do these machiavellian internal power plays at every opportunity. the culture of their caucus is just toxic. the way they interface with other tendencies is insane

no one who isn’t a total leftslop sycophant should believe this “groundwork are the mean manipulators” crap going around again. there’s nothing material to it, it’s an empty attempt to triangulate, and anyone who falls for it will be next on the chopping block

@OrganizerMemes This has been my frustration seeing caucus drama on here. Like I want to elect socialists to office at all levels. That’s the organizing I do. I have friends who work on labor, mutual aid, internationalism and they’re awesome. More focus on organizing and less on internal fights.

So much of the time I've spent with Dsa people was them complaining and strategizing against other Dsa caucuses At some point it's not even ideological at this tiny scale its just interpersonal conflict between rival friend groups

Wonderful to have the chance to discuss the success and lessons of Cornell YDSA running Hannah Shvets for Ithaca Common Council with my electoral co-chair @jyc_1228. We had a lot of interest from other chapters in running YDSA candidates and I’m so excited to see it!

If you are interested in our experience at Cornell or the conditions under which YOUR chapter might be able to run a student candidate shoot me a DM or reply. We’re building a socialist electoral wave including on college campuses and this is just the beginning! 🌹
