For anyone that needs to know why we call it the “Stop Nick Shirley” Act needs to read this section. It literally says in the bill “shall not publicly post.. an image of a “designated immigration support service provider..” Now what’s the definition of “immigration support service facility” as laid out in the bill you might ask? Here it is: "Designated immigration support services facility" means a facility where immigration support services are provided, including, but not limited to, nonprofit organizations offices, Department Of Justice-recognized entities, community legal clinics, law offices, accredited representative sites that provide immigration legal services, and health care facilities.” Now what is considered “harassment” in the bill? Well good thing the definition is also provided: "Harassment" is repeated, unreasonable, and unwelcome conduct directed at a targeted individual that would cause a reasonable person to fear for their own safety or the safety of a household member. Harassing conduct may include, but is not limited to, following, stalking, telephone calls, or written correspondence. Now can you tell me what could be considered “unwelcome” conduct? Could Nick Shirley video taping the hospice facilities in LA be considered unwelcome conduct of a “immigration service provider aka health care facility? Yes. So yes the “Quality Learing Center” in Minnesota would’ve qualified as a protected facility and a judge or DA would now have the power to prosecute Nick Shirley. If they want confidentiality then they shouldn’t get the public’s money. If CHIRLA is receiving 100 Million from taxpayers they do NOT get special treatment and that’s exactly what this bill is.
