@daveweigel Feel like the main point of this is that Trump lied, in the State of the Union, that she was killed by an immigrant. He caused the "messy politics" by lying

There are moments that offer a pretty good sense that something new is going to work. This feels like one for ABS. The Cincinnati crowd’s reaction was thunderous. And the situation itself — twice it salvaged a bases-loaded opportunity. This system plays.

@PeterCanellos @nytimes No questioning of Alito's positions here. Did he have a coherent pro-Cambodian bombing viewpoint, or did he just not like change and inconvenience?

@dilanesper @DouthatNYT According to Douthat and David Brooks, the only people who aren't to blame for Trump are the Republicans who voted him in twice

i think a lot about @DouthatNYT 's decadence thesis these days. Perhaps humans are bound to screw up stability and prosperity?

@daveweigel Are you interested in the funeral oration, or are you making sure you get enough digs in at Dems, even ones not in office, to keep your both-sides tour card?

Biggest thing dems could do for their current position imo is have true moral convictions. They love to wait till the poll tells them something is confirmed Okay and by that time it’s too late. You should try believing in something, anything, the first time - even at pt of risk

.@hollyotterbein scoops: Top Dem officials who worked on the party's still-secret autopsy of the 2024 election concluded that Kamala Harris lost significant support because of the Biden administration's approach to the war in Gaza. axios.com/2026/02/22/dnc…

Amazingly enough, 46 years later, the U.S. once again defeated the best hockey team a hostile, communistic power could put on the ice!

@whignewtons At some point, they had to see the forest for the trees. Trump wanted to use tariffs to take the power of the purse from Congress. Biden's was a one-off to fulfill a dumb campaign promise

Dems (in CA too) taking a Slim Charles approach to this after Ohio Rs changed the language of the anti-gerrymandering amendment to make it sound pro-gerrymander. Once you in it, you in it. ohiocapitaljournal.com/2024/08/16/ohi…
Bernard Stanford ✡︎@stanfordNYC

There's no high ground in gerrymandering, and what Democrats propose to do in Virginia is well-precedented. But this language is actually unconscionable. The line "restore fairness in the upcoming elections" is totally inappropriate to put to voters.

The president’s principal representative here, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, delivered a speech aimed at reassuring Europe and articulating Trumpism without the rhetorical headbutt that was Vice President JD Vance’s address to last year’s gathering. However, Rubio’s remarks were so compelling that they were met with a standing ovation and only served to remind Republicans and other observers across the Atlantic that he’s a far more talented political athlete than Vance — fueling another round of it-has-to-be-Marco-in-’28-right? politico.com/news/magazine/…

@daveweigel Weird headline to begin with. Do Dems, who gave her a prime spot at the convention, not take her seriously? And why would she need a rebirth? She's been steadily raising her mainstream profile for at least a year now

@AlecMacGillis Hard to understand, even in the name of cost-cutting. Books was one section, along with the Sunday Arts, where the Post was superior to the Times
