This week's @ViteConf was a LOT of fun.
It rekindled some of the neutrality/plurality magic from the old JSConfEUs. Like Switzerland. Bridging communities & frameworks. Folk cheering each other on, celebrating collaboration 🎉

I never understood "esm-only" folks. Like what's the benefit of making your library less accessible? Especially as Colin points out usually the price of cjs support is basically zero

hopefully never because that's would be a breaking change and I hope to never ship another major version of Zod 🙃 but the real answer is "when the last Node 18 app shuts down"...which is also never. Zod has way too many users to ever conceivably drop it, and with zshy it doesn't cost me anything to continue supporting it higher level though: I don't think the dual-module stuff is a fundamental part of zshy's value proposition. worth it for the DX alone, especially the declarative entrypoint map and the flexibility w.r.t. import extensions. planning to add some way (tomorrow....it's 3am lol) to disable CJS builds for people who don't want it.

@thdxr What about the mental model fits you more as opposed to react?
I had the opposite, where (due to experience) solid felt off and every little issue compounded in me getting frustrated.
Multiple breaking bugs in solid start were the nail in the coffin for me. Back to React.

i use solidjs for the mental model - it makes complicated scenarios easier
but everyone assumes i'm using it for performance
and it is performant but tbh i've spent more time debugging performance issues in solid than i ever did with react - much more delicate of a machine

@aralroca it's cus undefined is actually a variable, undefined = 1 is valid and only errors in strict mode cus it's set as read-only

Spoke to my dad @KuSureshKu who had the most based take about AI: he often advocated “work smarter, not harder”, and he asserts the “work smarter” folks get a significant boost with AI to a newer state whereas the “work harder” folks are at a disadvantage. Very based and I agree.

Almost 2025 and still no one created a vscode plugin that narrows Solid’s <Show> type
<Show when={auth.status() === "authenticated"}
{auth.session().user.name}
</Show>
auth.session() is still nullable, impossible to narrow with just TypeScript types.
Please create a plugin
