It's been 12+ years and I still have not gotten tired of the Semplice logo. If you remember what tech logos looked like back then, you might appreciate how different this felt at the time.

imagine if apple basically let you set up a home “server” that ran inference on that device with sophisticated models & every apple ecosystem device is a node off of that central server. it’s complicated but if anyone can deploy hardware like this it would be them. this would allow zero marginal cost ai without any middle man with a super privacy first approach. it would create another product category entirely. anyone remember the airport extreme?

What is missing is the remaining 10% when the task will need more compute. And that's the role @perplexity_ai is playing here. It's a model for how @Apple will become a dominant AI player.

Everyone keeps saying that Apple is sitting out the AI race, but they are playing a different game. They don't need to spend money on data centers, because the Apple's future data centers are your Macbooks, iPads and iPhones.

To me @perplexity_ai is starting to look like an appealing @Apple acquisition. A 5-year-old M1 Macbook Pro is already incredibly capable with local models. Some thoughts— macrumors.com/2026/05/07/per…

@benjitaylor TBH, I'm not a fan of the size changes on hover/active. I guess since they are stacked at least this doesn't shift other items.

If you like making things AI is just magic. You can just build anything on a whim. I spent the morning tweaking this exploding smiley face.
