.@SLOtoUN Amb @Samuel_Zbogar: "The situation between #Lebanon and #Israel and the war in #Gaza threaten to spark a wider conflict, especially with Israel's stated intention to expand military action beyond its northern border. We have to be clear: such action would be an attack on a sovereign state. We must prevent this by promoting diplomatic solutions that offer long-term stability. The region cannot endure another war, and we must act before the situation spirals beyond control." Echoes many of the points raised by @volker_turk regarding illegality of using booby traps and underlining the need to respect existing legal obligations no matter if new technologies are being used.

.@SLOtoUN Amb @Samuel_Zbogar: "It has been more than two months since the Council demanded a ceasefire. We have been patiently waiting for the implementation of our resolutions. Meanwhile we have been witnessing a continuation of deadly attacks and civilian casualties. And we have been observing Palestinians being chased across #Gaza. There is no more time to spare. There are no more innocent lives to be wasted. We once again propose that the Council establishes a clear deadline for the conclusion of the deal. In this interim period, a pause in the fighting should be observed. A pause that would allow for humanitarian aid to be delivered at scale and for polio vaccinations to be administered safely." Adds that while the #UNSC adopted four resolutions on #Gaza, it has not followed up on their implementation and the time has come to do so if a ceasefire is not reached in short order.

Quite an opening to @SLOtoUN Amb @Samuel_Zbogar speech on #Gaza: "Colleagues, there are 15 of us sitting around this table, 15 of us with a responsibility to protect civilian lives in Gaza. Were we meeting in the north of Gaza today, all 15 of us would be skipping meals in the past months. 10 of us would go entire days and nights without eating. Half of us would be in desperate need of humanitarian aid. And finally, at least 5 of us, would be parents to severely acutely malnourished children - life-threatening and with life-long consequences. We are not meeting in Gaza but listening to Ms. Soeripto maybe we should have met in Gaza. We are meeting at the UN Security Council where we know very well that looming famine in the north of Gaza, and the risk of famine across the rest of the rest of the Gaza strip can be prevented. Conflict induced and man-made famine means the absolute failure of the international community and gross violation of international humanitarian law. Starvation is used as a weapon of war. Waiting for a famine declaration will not change anything on the ground, unfortunately. But we know what will: an immediate ceasefire." #CeasefireNOW
