@FollowIncentiv Depending on when/what you’re trying to buy or rent, I’m not convinced there is a large “difference” to invest anyway. My mortgage is $1500 or so less than my house would rent for currently. And, after 10 years, it’s probably cheaper than almost any apartment we could rent.

The scary truth about “renting is better”: Most Americans were never going to invest the difference into the S&P 500. Financial Twitter acts like everyone is maxing out Roth IRAs and buying VOO every month. Reality: For many people, their house is the only meaningful asset they will ever build. A paid off house at retirement is a lot better than retiring with nothing. What do you think?🤔
Colin@colin_gladman

Y’all have to understand 50% of all households own ZERO stock or have retirement accounts. I talk to “everyday” people all the time absolutely getting crushed right now. The stock market is NOT the economy. A very large majority of this country and world don’t care about a memory shortage or how many GPU’s $NVDA can sell. They care if they can put a roof over their head and groceries on the table. And most are struggling to do that. Make sure you look outside the glass house every now and then.

@GovernorAnne Don’t discount that you may get lucky with MIL. I did, in many ways, and if she has to move in we’ll put a nice little casita for her out back

@emilykmay I very much dislike the “ruins” bodies narrative (it makes bodies different! Bodies aren’t “ruined”) but this is also not the way 😅

just saw a woman online who said, "4 kids, no stretch marks, back to normal clothes within a week. really negates all the misogynistic programming I heard before having kids… telling me pregnancy ruins a woman’s body" and she really thought she did a feminism with that.

@acechhh @bentleyliz2 She definitely did it, but competent defense should’ve gotten them down to manslaughter, right?

@acechhh @bentleyliz2 I think she was living off boyfriend’s drug dealing money and trying to become an influencer so she didn’t have that much herself, and her parents are obviously no help in any way.

anyway Mackenzie Shirilla was a legal injustice and her lawyer going for a bench trial was an absolute awful decision. "he thought the jury wouldnt like her!" please. that is a beautiful, thin, white, female child. a bench trial was an insane choice

@xxdbreezyxx No expert for the defense on what kind of driving might have caused a similar result in the black box, either. Did that man even try anything

@xxdbreezyxx Her lawyer seemed terrible, at least on the Netflix doc. How do you not bring in a medical expert for your POTS defense? Letting her waive a jury?!

there is no doubt in my mind that mackenzi shirilla killed them boys… but the court did not prove that beyond reasonable doubt. they used her social media & other antics of hers to diminish her character; but nothing proved what happened that night was intentional BEYOND a reasonable doubt. she was spoiled, entitled, and a narcissist. but what part of that meant she killed them? nobody has proven what happened in that car. it should be manslaughter if anything. not a murder because at the end of the day, nobody who is alive can say what happened in that car, just that people died. she did it lmao but PROVE IT. that’s how court works.

22 year old kid at the bar earlier told me he regrets voting Trump, then he told me I look like Thomas Massie, even held up a photo of him on his phone next to my face to show his friends who agreed, you take the good with the bad I guess

@HarryGuerrilla @missus_wormy That’s what I’m thinking too. Some sort of trust where a more financially reasonable grandparent can determine how much is necessary for their care/education/etc.

@SamwiseGLAMgee @missus_wormy I'm setting up a revocable trust and making the trustee a non family/friend third party. No withdrawals until my kiddo hits adulthood, maybe mid 20s. Family being in charge is just too risky.

one thing that sucked about growing up in poverty and autistic was being able to see and not change my parents money choices. my grandma got abused and died from her nursing home, we got a lawsuit payout, and my mom bought a 10k fur coat that she then lost at Texas Roadhouse.

recently watched the Sex and the City episode this screenshot is from. she's saying it to Charlotte, which I thought was unfair, as Charlotte is the SATC character most likely to end up with a butch lesbian who treats her like a goddess

@SamwiseGLAMgee I agree & do this at country bars w some success. Am attacking the generalized idea that there still exists some panacea in every town where this is possible. No not for Avg Joe. I can do this because I have a lot going for myself. Avg girl not there to date, not unless u are +++

If you found a bar with dancing (there are still some! Just fewer and harder to find and might have to be a music genre that’s not your favorite, ie country) and did this, complete with asking for the picnic date via phone call the next day, yeah, I think you’d be drowning in it
Zeno Morphic Resonance@TortoiseXeno

@swarley75042565 I talked to a boomer yesterday who in good nature said the way to get girls is to go to the bar and ask every girl to dance then take them on a picnic date. Just completely different world. I didn't even know how to respond, he was turning down women back then to travel

@theashleyray The restaurant thing Boomers kind of do to themselves though, to be fair. Like, Red Lobster isn’t cheaper then a medium nice local place they just generally don’t like trying new places as much (at least in my experience with Boomers)
