Her name is Kuljeet Kaur Marhas. She is a professor at the Planetary Science Division of the Physical Research Laboratory in Ahmedabad, one of India's most respected space science institutions, which works closely with ISRO. On May 9 2026 she was elected Fellow of The Meteoritical Society, one of the most prestigious scientific bodies in the world dedicated to the study of meteorites, planetary materials and the origins of the Solar System. The society was founded in 1933. It has been electing Fellows for 93 years. She is the first Indian woman in those 93 years to receive this honour. She is only the third Indian scientist ever. The two before her were Devendra Lal and J.N. Goswami, both giants of Indian science. Her work focuses on understanding how the Solar System was formed billions of years ago. She studies ancient extraterrestrial materials, tiny grains that existed before the Sun was born, fragments locked inside meteorites that fell to Earth carrying secrets from the earliest moments of our Solar System's existence. Using advanced instruments including a technology called nanoSIMS, she reads isotopic signatures at the nanoscale, measurements so precise they can detect variations in matter that formed 4.6 billion years ago. As a Muslim girl I was married at age of 16yrs and I forced to quit studies and after severe begging I was allowed to take studies only after completing all household tasks. Even then I was beaten up by Husband forcing me to stop my CA education or face consequences. These were the words of my ex husband who is a Muslim. When i told this to my parents they were deaf, telling me beta you should listen to your husband. When i went to police they also didn't helped me, they told me as per your islam husband can beat his wife. Only if you are severely injured and can't live then only we can take case. I went into verge of self deletion as no help was there and no one was helping me. I took 17 cuts on my body hoping to be deleted. Then I was rushed to hospital and I begged my dad please allow me to study and I don't want to live in his house give me divorce. Then my mom fought with my dad and got me divorce. At age of 17.5yrs i got my divorce and I started studying my CA in another city so that my ex husband won't have access to me With blessings of my teachers, parents and my hindu friends I completed my CA But unfortunately millions of muslim girls won't have this luxury to study cause we will be getting married at age of 14-18 yrs and it is legally allowed and even Supreme court has told that Muslim girls has no right to education or choose life partner. And we will be married off as soon as we reach puberty I feel sad to see such judgements
