@Rat_na12 //Innocent until proven guilty is something that is disgustingly absent in Sri Lankan public discourse.// like domestic machanism for war crimes? Kapila Chandrasena, claimed Rs. 60 million from the bribes went to ex-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, plus Rs. 20M to ex-Minister.

Innocent until proven guilty is something that is disgustingly absent in Sri Lankan public discourse. Whatever the circumstances of his death, Kapila was hounded until the end by a state machinery that wanted political scalps and gleeful journalists that just wanted clicks.

@akeenan23 So deploying one of the best counterinsurgency forces to bring peace for the Haitians while organisations like you who exploit the dire environments of the Haitians are moral and legal? Nice show but it needs more plot

Lots of red flags waving in this important and well-documented joint statement on plans to send #SriLanka soldiers to #Haiti as part UN anti-gang troop deployment. Haitians and Sri Lankans deserve much more transparency from all those organisations involved in planning.

I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to actor-politician Chandrasekaran Joseph Vijay, who won the highest number of seats in the Tamil Nadu elections, i.e. 108 seats, and won the overwhelming support of the voters of the state of Tamil Nadu. As a national politician in Sri Lanka, what matters to me is the overall Indian politics. Indian state politics matters to us on a few minor issues. However, Chandrasekaran Vijay expressed his direct views on many issues related to Sri Lanka during his election campaign.Vijay is now preparing to stake a claim for the "highest position" in the state of Tamil Nadu.He will soon meet the Governor of Tamil Nadu, Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar, for this. However, in a 234-seat assembly, Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kasagam (TVK) party is 10 short of the majority mark of 118. To become the ‘Thalapathi’ of the state, Vijay will have to rely on allies. Whatever he said on the political stage, he will have to face many practical truths in his future politics.Since India and Sri Lanka gained independence from the British Colonialists as independent states eight decades ago, both our countries have left many indelible independent marks in world politics. Both countries have always respected each other’s sovereignty. Therefore, Indian state politicians like Vijay will have to look beyond what they said on the election platforms to Sri Lanka in the future. I wish the this young and stunning politician do well in his political journey and hope that the political, social and economic conditions of the people of Tamil Nadu will improve in the future. #Vijay#india #srilanka #lka

Mother Searching for Disappeared Sons and Son-in-Law Passes Away Murugesupillai Sellamma (74) from Muththaiyankattu, Mullaitivu, who spent years demanding justice for her two sons and son-in-law who were forcibly disappeared after surrendering to the Sri Lankan military in May 2009, has passed away on 27.04.2026. Trusting assurances of rehabilitation and release, she handed them over to the military at Vattuvakal during the final days of the war. Since then, no information has been provided about their fate. Her daughter, Sasikumar Ranjinidevi, continues the struggle for truth and justice as a representative of families of the forcibly disappeared in Mullaitivu. Just two months after the death of her husband, Sellamma too has passed away without knowing what happened to her loved ones. #Disappearedtamils #Mullivaikkal #Nojustice

We condemn the incident in Neelagamam, Kahawatte, where an estate worker’s home was demolished and he was reportedly assaulted by unidentified individuals. No one should have to live in fear of losing their home or facing violence. For generations, Malaiyaha plantation workers have contributed greatly to this country. Yet many are still waiting for something as basic as security, dignity, and a place they can truly call home. I urge the government to step in without delay, carry out a fair and transparent investigation, and ensure those responsible are held accountable. People must feel that justice is real and that their voices are heard. The Neelagamam issue also reminds us that we cannot continue to delay solutions to long-standing challenges such as housing and land rights. These families deserve stability, recognition, and respect.

Sri Lanka has, for the first time, appointed a representative to Palestine at ambassadorial level. Accordingly, Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath has appointed M. Fauser as Sri Lanka’s representative in Palestine. A cordial discussion between the Minister and Fauser was held this afternoon ahead of his departure to assume duties. During the meeting, Fauser noted that Sri Lanka has long maintained close relations with Palestine. He said he hopes to carry out his duties in line with the position of the Sri Lankan government. He has previously served as Secretary of the Palestine Solidarity Committee of Sri Lanka for an extended period. Following the discussion, Minister Herath congratulated Fauser and wished him success in his new role. Fauser is scheduled to depart Sri Lanka tonight (04) to begin his assignment. (Newswire)

The National Freedom Front, led by me, issued a public press release today on the appalling situation regarding the independence of the judiciary. The full press release is as follows: Let us condemn the government’s statements that have destroyed trust in the judiciary ! "The government has made a number of controversial statements during recent International Workers’ Day rallies, which have created deep suspicion and distrust in the judiciary, the institution that administers justice in this country, and in the decisions of the judges who perform their crucial and responsible professional role. The country’s Executive President, Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has invited the countrymen to prepare to accept the decisions given by the judiciary in the future and the dates related to them, mentioning the decisions that will be given by the judiciary in the future. Does this not mean that the judicial function of administering justice has been completely politicized? Isn’t the President implicitly saying that the relevant judges are going to give a verdict that the party people gathered in front of his public rally can praise? This raises serious questions about the independence of the judiciary. Not only the President but also several other ministers have made several such serious statements during the recent May rallies. This has led to a serious doubt among the public about the practice of the judiciary in this country. These statements cannot help but create serious distrust among the citizens that the judiciary is an institution that makes decisions according to the needs of the executive. It goes without saying that this is a situation that seriously questions its role in implementing independent justice entrusted to the judiciary in accordance with the Constitution of this country. We are eagerly awaiting the steps taken by the parties who are deeply interested in the independence of the judiciary in this regard. Similarly, we are also curious about the further steps taken by the Chief Justice regarding the defamatory statements made by the President and other ministers. They directly and indirectly point out that the judiciary is a vicious system that makes decisions at the whim of the executive. Governments can change. The judiciary cannot change with governments. According to the statements of the authorities mentioned above, it is clear that with the change of governments, the judiciary also changes. This is a powerful and tragic obstacle affecting the survival of the entire state. Therefore, these statements should not be taken lightly. This shameful situation that the judiciary itself has imposed on its role should be considered and appropriate and strict measures should be taken. If so, public confidence in the judicial process in this country will increase. It is important for everyone to understand that nothing exists without public confidence." #wimalweerawansa #srilanka #lka #lk #npp #srilankalaw

On her 44th birth anniversary, we remember #Isaipriya, a voice that stood at the crossroads of war, media, and identity. For many Tamils, she was more than just a presenter, she became a symbol of cultural expression during one of the darkest phases of the Srilankan Civil War. Beyond the politics and debates, her story carries a deeply human layer, that of a young woman caught in the middle of conflict, using her voice in the only way she knew, and eventually becoming part of the very tragedy she once reported. Today, she is remembered in different ways by different people, as a journalist, a propagandist, a cultural icon, or a victim. But her story continues to raise questions that the world has still not fully answered.
