I’m hesitant to even link to something so disingenuous. But I’m happy to engage in a conversation about why I’m so passionate about college access work.

I don’t think anyone said it was magic. But it sure sounds like a bad initiative when it’s presented as if we expect it to fix all of foster care’s problems. [Narrator: Advocates already know that it won’t. It’s just one intervention/idea]

I find similar reporting happening with all types of #ChildWelfare matters. What you read in the public media is often a gross misrepresentation of what CPS, foster care, or system involvement actually is.

My small soap box of today: "I have two children of my own" shows once again how adoption becomes a misunderstood feel-good talking point. If you adopt a child, they are your own now too. (But since you wouldn't actually feel that way, I guess I'm glad you "weren't able to.")

@QuantStratTradR @HenrichDeborah @jasonselvig I'll take your Q at face value, & provide an honest answer: "None. I have two bio kids" "I didn't adopt. Gave birth to 2 kids" It's not wordier, & if you know someone doing this well, who actually has bio & adopted child(ren), the phrase "my own" wouldn't even come to mind.

May is actually #NationalFosterCareMonth and I'm put off by the diversion of awareness-raising for foster care issues in general to praise for foster parents. childwelfare.gov/fostercaremont…
