@AnarchSoul Enough with the purism. State capitalism? Substantial material development is a prerequisite to decommodification and a post-scarcity economy. Revisionism? Yes, being next to the US does force Cuba to put some objectives on hold. Monarchy? Not really.

I don't think a better summary of 🇷🇺🇺🇦 discourse exists 🇷🇺: *Joke about how both soldiers behave/ pose in similar places* 🇺🇦: "Here is a Russian soldier being blown up." Ironically whatever shock value this might have had is entirely gone because it's your first and only response to anything.

@ChatgptLunatics Suomi is the Finnish name for their country that’s still in use today. Eestland is a hallucination for the German “Estland”. They call their country “Eesti”.

Kraut complaining about people's past history on the internet while he used to post openly fascist content
Kraut@The_Davos_Man

@Crunterman he had a twitter account (which he deleted) where he used to tweet that Ukrainians were all Nazis, and even did Holodomor denial. Getting access to his deleted tweets and deleted account would be cool.

@TuoreetPyssyt @Sarcastagasm_2 @The_Clermontian @accipiter0 Regarding leftists, the difference you’re describing is that of hell and purgatory. It’s a nicer alternative, but the whole point of politics and revolution is ultimately manifesting your will. Finland got invaded because it wasn’t hard to predict 100 years of stagnation.

Yes, but "this setback came with an unexpected minor benefit" is not the same as "this was the whole plan all along". Also, "leftists were at risk of being sent to camps and had no influence in politics" is very different than "they never won a single-party majority or turn the country socialist".

Revisionism around the Winter War gets tiring at a point. It was an absurdly impressive performance by the Finnish Army, and an absurdly embarassing performance by the Red Army.

@TuoreetPyssyt @Sarcastagasm_2 @The_Clermontian @accipiter0 And this doesn’t necessarily contradict my point. In the data you provided, not once did the social democrats exceed 50%. They came closest in 1916. 110 years later, Finland isn’t close to become socialist. And I’m sure the SocDems are walking a lot of things back.

The reason why the Reds turned against the USSR was because the USSR launched an indiscriminate terror campaign against Finnish civilians, including firebombing Red neighborhoods. The society did have a White bias, but you're exaggerating it. Most Reds, apart from the leaders, were pardoned very soon after the war. The Social Democratic Party - the party that started the civil war - actually held more seats in the Finnish parliament during the interwar period than at any point in the 21st century.

@TheFl0orIsLaVa Eh…the broader point is agreeable but Kasparov himself is a lolcow. Nothing about his political opinions or thought processes is the product of an independent mind. He never left the greener grass phase.

Polish GDP has trippled since Poland joined the E.U. Also, what do you think weighs heavier in the collective historic memory of Poles: 5 tough years recovering from communist damage? Or 40 years of communists doing the damage?
severely correct #FOREVERWAR@leninizmklasse

@BlueEyedDevil95 @PunishedFredda @The_Davos_Man poland has been so utterly mind-raped by shock therapy capitalism that they support their own people's annihilation to own le commies

As an Eastern European from a small country, I think being anti-Russia is stupid. However, being pro-Russia is even more stupid. I share the same opinion, pretty much, about any “empire.” They don’t care about our well-being, so why should we care about them? Play both sides.

@_dzirka @The_Davos_Man Yes, GDP is bullshit, but communist Poland was first and foremost a buffer state. Life was austere, and the material conditions of the average Pole still improved significantly. Ignoring this won’t help Poland leave this reflexive antagonism towards leftism Kraut is enabling.

@The_Davos_Man gdp is just a number so capitalists go mad when number go up. if it weren’t for communism, whole eastern europe would be rotting under capital and privatization for not just the last 35 years, but 100. there is no damage, only benefits that once they go, we die under capital

@_kabibara_ @The_Davos_Man Stop. Poland faced austerity and repression. I’m not saying it’s great there now, nor does any of this imply socialism is philosophically unsound, but Poland did improve economically once it stopped existing as a buffer state.

@Kozzist @The_Davos_Man Okay, that is bad, but on this specific point Kraut is correct. Poland did function as a buffer state. Their economy was austere towards the people, there was political repression, and both were told to be in the name of communism.

One of the first things the Russian dissident Solchenyzn did when he arrived in Western exile, was to support the Vietnam War. One of the first things the Czech dissident Kundera did when he arrived in Western exile, was to condemn Pinochet's coup. Night and day difference.

@Sarcastagasm_2 @The_Clermontian @accipiter0 During the revolution the Finns had their own civil war. Their white movement won, purged leftists, and was dominated by reactionary politics. When the war ended, Finland conceded by defanging that movement and moderating. That was the point of wanting to conquer them.

@The_Clermontian And yet Finland felt the need to sue for peace and Barbarossa did ultimately fail. The finish line is what ultimately matters in war. A very poor start doesn’t matter if the ending is done well.

The Red Army was just bad and incompetent. If it wasn't then they would have beaten the Finns and Barbarossa would've imploded on contact. We don't have to pretend otherwise because the History Channel might have overcorrected.
