A powerful and inspiring start to the Fifth International Conference on the Safe Schools Declaration. Leaders, partners, and global advocates are speaking in one voice: education in conflict is not just about going to school — it is about safety, dignity, protection, and hope. Education means creating safe environments, delivering life-saving assistance, supporting families with services that sustain life, and most importantly, ensuring every child can simply be a child. Today’s gathering represents a critical opportunity to recommit to protecting education in conflict zones and strengthen our collective resolve. Across the room, leaders echoed strong commitments to: ☑️ Sustain and increase humanitarian funding for education in emergencies. ☑️ Support local communities, teachers, and civil society with greater decision-making power and direct funding. ☑️ Drive forward policy, financing, and concrete protection measures to ensure learning continues even in crisis. We are honored to have dignitaries from governments, UN agencies, and civil society joining us to amplify global efforts to protect students, teachers, and educational institutions — in person, online, and across media platforms. Notable leaders in attendance include: - H.E. Hon @MusaliaMudavadi, EGH – Prime Cabinet Secretary, Kenya. - Amb. (Prof.) @JuliusKBitok,CBS, PhD – Principal Secretary, Basic Education. - @SWJacksonUN – the UN Resident Coordinator, UN in Kenya - Hon. @HonJuliusMigos – the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Education Kenya. - Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik (@akravik79) – State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway - Honorary @CarrenAgengo, CPA – Principal Secretary, State Department for Children Services Kenya - Henriette Westhrin, Secretary General, Save the Children Norway among many others committed to advancing safe education for all. Voices from the Ground Forum “A safe school is where I can learn without fear.” — Scholah Chebet, Child Delegate, Kenya. “To my students, safety means hope — the chance to dream again.” — Faid Warsame, Teacher, Dadaab Primary School in Kenya. At the heart of this Conference are the voices that matter most. The Voices from the Ground Forum brought together children, youth, teachers, and community leaders from conflict-affected contexts to share their lived realities of attacks on education — and the resilience, courage, and determination that fuel their advocacy. Their testimonies are shaping global policy conversations and reminding the world that meaningful and lasting solutions must be rooted in the lived experiences of those directly affected. These voices continue to guide our collective efforts to protect education, uphold children’s rights, and build safer learning environments for every child. #SafeSchoolsConference2025 #SafeSchools2025 #SSD10 #NairobiActionPlan #ProtectEducationFromAttack #EducationUnderAttack #NotATarget @UNICEF @UNICEFKenya @UNESCO @GCPEAtweets @PlanGlobal @scjapan @PlanKenya @savechildrenNG #savethechildrennorway @scjapan @savechildrenMoz @SavetheChildren @PlanGlobal @_AfricanUnion
