"The economy moved on" Can some bright mind explain who, what or where exactly "the economy" is? Is it a force of history impervious the the will of man? A natural phenomenon like a ocean current? Is it on the table of elements or an exotic new form of matter? I know what a state is. I know nations. I know industry and technology. I know policy and finances. I know what interests are. But I don't know what a "the economy" is. It's seemingly accountable to no one but we are all its subjects and it can change or "move on" of its own accord and we can only react to its consequences.

Just gave her PhD thesis a cursory glance, there was definitely some leeway as regards to quality. The thesis is essentially just a survey, it contains no results section, and possibly the only Sociology PhD without the use of normative statistical measures like correlation...

@BardnanGael The scholarship in question is the 'Foundation Scholarship', you take a very difficult set of exams in your field during second year in TCD and if you score above 70% you get free fees and accommodation on campus for 5 years. It's realistically hugely impressive.

Most of the fuel protest people are farmers/truckers/tradesmen of one variety, more of a 2010s water protest type flavour. People are just pissed..
