@msm_monitor the uk has a rotten economic model for the last 40ys since they closed northern industry where far too much of city of london and spinoffs abd the rest of just put on life support. Destroying communities and social cohesion too.
English

@Mickdeee @msm_monitor they don’t deserve that kind of interest in them. They haven’t won a GE except in red tory mode since 1974 and only ever will because the english electorate never vote labour unless it tory lite. They are dining off v distant memories of 1946-79.
English

@msm_monitor Scottish Labour are brutal
I am gasping to vote for Labour again yet they keep parading these loonies out

@msm_monitor Scottish Unionists are entitled to regard themselves as"British" & to support the UK as their preferred system of governance.
However, regarding the UK/Britain (not Scotland) as their "country", and falsely denigrating Scotland in justification, echoes the"Parcel o' Rogues".

@Dan_Roachy @woodvillered you need to read up on the systematic irradiation of Gaelic and Welsh to understand why. It was brutal and banned at schools for a long time
English

@RentFreeCrypto it is but I feel no affinity with England other than Geordies and Scousers. I’ve lived in southern england and I don’t dislike them but just don’t feel kinship like say with the Irish, Scousers and Geordies who just have a similar ultra friendly and funny warm blooded vibe
English

@SconeOf People picking a team based on past wars is crazy. Dumb
English

@TheAliceSmith a very high % of the seemingly Gaelic placenames in the Hebrides are actually norse in origin. Norwegian vikings had a huge impact on north and west scotland and left a load of genes. They founded dozens of clans. They also sailed on and founded 5 or 6 of Irelands cities
English

Scots claiming they have more in common with Norway than British nations is top-level cringe.
The only Scandinavian countries are Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, which share a peninsula and closely related Germanic languages.
Then there’s the Nordic countries, which consist of the core Scandinavian nations plus Finland and Iceland.
Scotland isn’t in the picture. At all.
English

@TheAliceSmith there are a ton of scottish clans with norse origins. Loads of famous ones. They were Gall-Gaels (mixed Norse-Gaelic) all the way down almost all the west coast of scotland. Norwegians also ruled chunks of Scotland fand left Norn language in far north and effected scots dialects
English

@TheAliceSmith wrong! Norwegian viking seaway was around top of scotland and down west to Ireland. For that reason every north and west Scot had between 50% and 8% genes from the norwegians and 5% on east Many Scots clans are of Norse origin -McLeods, McDonalds, McDougald, McAuleys etc.
English

@bertybear73 the Scots, Picts and Britons were at times enemies but their elites also were heavily intermarried with each other abz frequently allied. Marriages were diplomatic moves. I wrote a phd thesis on this so could bore you for hours on this 😂
English

@bertybear73 it’s generally held the Scots and Picts united around 840AD and that is accepted as the start date of the Kingdom of Alba with the old Pictish ruling kingdom of Fortriu and the old Scottish kingdom of Dalriada both loosing lots of land to the Norse in the north and west
English

@SconeOf Why not Spain as it accounts for your language and people?
English

@bertybear73 the kingdoms of scotland or england didn’t exist then. In fact the viking onslaught was a key factor in the unification of them both into two kingdoms instead a 4 or 5 each. the vikings basically destroyed the internal rivals and let one dynasty in each create 2unified kingdoms
English

@justdavenow89 @DWeller50261 @CynicalBrit2023 an anti estab rebel leader in his private gentleman’s club living like a pal of Bertie Wooster with Jeeves tutting at him from the corner
English

These ‘neighbours’ who have allegedly given statements saying the man was a loner—they had never seen him, only saw the light on every now and again, etc.—yet they also know he has two brothers, a father who died and when, a mother who lives in Devon, that he doesn’t work, and that he has learning difficulties.
Interesting that they know so much about this loner.
English

@ph7litmus @RachAvvqg you had linen provided? 😱 Sounds like Brideshead Revisited😂
English

@SconeOf @RachAvvqg At my uni, we had clean pressed linen sheets every 2 days. I was madly spoilt. (Top sheet became bottom sheet and new top sheet applied, daily). Might have just been my particular college.
English

@marionmain3 yum. Been far too long since I had it. It was once a breakfast dish I believe

It's literally impossible to acknowledge "Scotland's" agency after the Scottish State was dissolved and ceased to exist in 1707 - because it didn't have any!
Instead it was ruled directly by Westminster thereafter - exactly like many other colonies.
It was even militarily occupied during the 1750's at *ten times* the density of occupied India.
English

@irishpatriot91 @sandrachrst scotland hasn’t gone left wing. Its been that way for generations. Mant in my grandparents generation were full blown marxists and even communist party members. Some used to take their holidays in the soviet union!
