Throwback to when #vincentbrowne tore shreds off Brian Hayes. The reality is that millionaire TDs from FFG don't understand the #fuelprotests because they're not impacted by them in any shape or form.

The Irish goverments response so far to this situation is appalling. Fix the problem and do your job. No more supports until blockade ends, meeting hears rte.ie/news/politics/… via @rte

@higginsdavidw The Irish government needs to stop wasting OUR taxes helping foreign countries and foreign citizens. It's OUR wages.

The fuel debate has several economic and data sins at once: ❌ Comparing Spain fuel prices to Ireland without comparing wages ❌ Sharing the % of taxes on diesel before the March 25th excise cut (now a lower %) ❌ Thinking farmers are hit by headline diesel prices (they pay much lower taxes on marked gas oil). ❌ Claiming farmers are going out of business by taxes. They are (rightly) in receipt of massive EU subsidies so food is affordable for all households.

Its extremely hard not to sound condescending explaining to people that the government doesn't actually want all businesses to collapse and go under from fuel prices Even by their own logic, why would a government want to crash their own economy and make itself poorer?

@EO_Halloran @TrophyMerchants No, this is the straw that broke the camel's back. The Gardaí have tonight canclled all leave. A water can has been deployed to Cork (Irish Examiner) I am dumbfounded by such a reaction by our State.

@Scoondle @TrophyMerchants The protests only happened now. They weren't happening before the global oil crisis. So they are a reaction to the sudden rising prices over the last month caused by the global shortage Basically if Trump didn't attack Iran last month, we wouldn't see these protests today

@EO_Halloran @TrophyMerchants I remember when a barrel of oil cost $1.40 and diesel price was €1.45 per litre. I was a taxi driver, that's why I remember. So, yes that is the reason for the latest increase. That is not what the protest is about. It is about government taxing everything we earn/buy.

@Scoondle @TrophyMerchants The problem is the crisis was triggered by a global fuel shortage causing prices to rise rapidly. And they'll continue to rise. Now everyone is in trouble so previous conversations are now irrelevant. Which requires new ones in a new situation that's ever changing

@mickthehack Ok. So the Gardaí are locking down. The government have locked down. This is going to go on for a long time. Apparently, negotiating with 2 sides is a lost skill in this government.

@TrophyMerchants @EO_Halloran Rural TDs have been saying it for months. Check out Ken O'Flynn and Michael Collins speeches on oireachtas.ie. They were ignored. 2 government TDs were supporting the protesters today. This has been going on for months where I live.
