1/5 Just Now: Paris court in a landmark decision, sentenced Syria's highest ranking intelligence officials to life, in absentia, for the the torture and murder of Mr Mazen and his son Patrick in detention.

I welcome the ICC prosecutor’s request for arrest warrants for Hamas leaders, Sinwar, Deif and Haniyeh, and for Israel’s PM Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant. Hamas leaders should be held accountable for the war crimes and crimes against humanity they undoubtedly committed on October 7th (which includes the crimes of extermination, murder, torture, rape, and taking hostages). Netanyahu and Gallant should be held accountable for the war crime and crime against humanity of “starvation of civilians as a method of war” during Israel’s war in Gaza -- there is at the very least “reasonable grounds to believe” that they have committed such a crime (Gallant announced on Oct. 9, 2023, "I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel"; ten days later Netanyahu stated, "we will not allow humanitarian assistance, in the form of food and medicines, from our territory to the Gaza Strip"). This is not about drawing a moral equivalence between Hamas and Israel. It is about upholding international law and holding decision-makers accountable. International arrest warrants have just been requested by the ICC attorney general @KarimKhanQC against Israel’s Netanyahu and Gallant, and against Hamas’s Sinwar, Deif and Haniyeh. It is a well founded request and an apex of the Israeli-Palestinian tragedy. I hope Israeli elections are now in clear sight. No such prospects for Gaza. On my way to the anti-government rally in Jerusalem, which promisesto be large and angry. And I can clearly hear, all the way from the Negev, David Ben Gurion turning in his grave.
