Imagine you had to choose your life at age 40: Option A: Single. No kids. $10M net worth. Travel anywhere. Total freedom. Quiet house. Quiet holidays. Option B: Married. 3 kids. $1M net worth. Drive a Toyota. Chaos every morning. Loud house. Full dinner table. Be honest, which life are you choosing?

@JeffWeniger Is this an example of how by anchoring two fundamentally distinct lines on a graph arbitrarily to 0% you magnify numerically small changes from small starting baselines to make them dominate the graph, when in nominal proportions the shift would look like noise?

YouTube is all about viewer satisfaction signals The algorithm rarely gets direct feedback about whether someone truly enjoyed a video or not So it has to model "satisfaction" indirectly through noisy signals like watch time, clicks, and behavior So the algorithm asks questions like: >did the user click? >did he stay on the platform? >did it lead to a binge watch session? >did they come back the day after? That’s how YouTube measures satisfaction The simplest way to think about it is this: YouTube is trying to predict expected watch time for each viewer, not just clicks Because ranking purely by click-through rate would simply promote clickbait - and the most deceptive clickbait videos would be on top of YouTube So if you want to win, you don’t just optimize for “content", but you have to optimize for satisfaction per impression

Interesting. I think this is generally helpful for new creators in a world where it’s really hard to give absolute benchmarks. I would have appreciated seeing this when I was starting out. It should just be said though, lots of asterisks on this. Genre is gonna impact this quite a bit. But also, traffic source is going to as well. For example, Suggested is generally going to be higher retention than Browse. Cheers!

YOUTUBE RETENTION SECRETS Most people obsess over retention. They chase the same % for every video. That’s a mistake. Here’s how it actually works as leaked by the director of YTs algorithm A thread 👇🧵

@lemire I doubt it. Likely the output of law being practiced will just exponentially increase. Our legal system is massively burdened by inefficiency at the moment.

@vidIQ 100%. Definitely niche dependent, but putting face in every thumbnail is one of those optimization mantras that is simply outdated.

Believe it or not, your face in the thumbnail is probably killing your views. Unless you're already famous, people click for IDEAS, not creators. Test removing yourself. Your CTR will likely spike.

@KodeationsTV @vidIQ Interesting. You actually don’t hear a lot of creators talk publicly about this, but it’s definitely a thing. I personally think there’s a good case to turn them off if you’re also doing mid roll integrations as it’s just too much.

This did not directly ruin my content but I did is out on a TON of revenue… when I got started during the pandemic, I was told by a much larger creator “to turn mid-roll ads off, since I was so small and did not want to push viewers away blah blah blah” Forward a year later, I went from 2k subs to 30,000 subs and I had several videos with over 100k views etc. all without mid roll ads… It wasn’t until another creator looking at my account on the back end pointed this out and was in shock on how much money I missed out on due to those views have zero Mid-roll ads… 😅

@DanClarkSports Your point isn’t completely invalid, but this chart doesn’t tell the whole story. A more accurate picture would be to subtract expenses from each team. You’ll find with obviously some exceptions that most of the teams are barely breaking even.

The #Dodgers are not ruining baseball. Owners of other teams, who do not re-invest revenue into payroll and instead retain greater profit for themselves, are the ones ruining baseball.

@TrungTPhan Serious question, what consumer segment actually cares about a thinner phone at this point? Teenage girls? Men with tight jeans?I’d love to see the focus groups that have led them on this never-ending quest for thinner devices.

Apple’s new three-year iPhone roadmap is a slim Air phone (2025), Foldable device (2026), All-Glass 20th Anniversary model (2027). They should scrap those and just make the iPhone Chunk: huge battery life, indestructible and no camera bump.

As always, appreciate the transparency and willingness to listen, Rene. Youtube is lucky to have you representing them. In general, I think you'll find that most creators are willing to roll with almost anything, as long as there's an option to opt-out. Especially when it comes to automatic processing, I really really don't like Youtube messing with something that I painstakingly dialed in to be exactly how I want.

I keep thinking about this one tweet I saw about parents who treated every inconvenience like a tragedy and how it basically conditioned their kids into believing that life was way harder than it actually is Two people could come from similar socioeconomic backgrounds, cultures, generations, etc. but showcase completely different levels of emotional fragility because of this One person gets hit with an unexpected bill, accidentally breaks something, etc. Actually ends up debilitating them for a good portion of the day. Another person gets pummeled by a string of consecutive L's and ultimately laughs about reality being the greatest comedy Just because as kids they didn't have the agency yet to question their inputs and had to make sense of them at face value. All they could do was see their mom freak out over forgetting to put the food in the fridge overnight and think "all mistake bad and scary" or see their dad calmly navigate through a recession and think "sometimes bad thing happen but never need to worry" Honestly made a huge impact on me because it not only started making me hyper aware of my own knee jerk reactions, but also allowed me to better understand how other people act. Like no you're not being punished. You don't have to be exhausted all the time. Your family just oneshotted you but the good thing is you have the power to break the generational curse. Please believe in yourself Everything is a matter of perception and your perception can be fully controlled. Life is truly only as hard as you believe it is. Catch yourself being dramatic, just take a step back and ask yourself why. Realize you were fed beliefs that you didn't ask for. Forgive the past, accept the present, and commit to the process of replacing those beliefs with new ones. Before you know it, you stop reacting in the way you once did and change not only your life but everyone who comes in contact with you from here on out

This is the harsh reality that the housing market hasn’t come to terms with Everyone thinks rate cuts mean housing to the moon lol. They still can’t afford the house even if mortgage rates go back to 3% Once there’s no bid when rates drop the sellers will start to panic 💀
