Lost another friend to cancer. Early 50s. Fit. Nonsmoker.
So many I know getting aggressive cancer, having strokes, out-of-the-blue seizures, etc. Weird, fast moving problems.
I know 50 ain't young but is it that old?
God bless everyone dealing with health issues out there.

@hankfrank Not a hot take. It was never about the running to begin with. It was all a social function with pretend runners.

Hot take: the run club bubble has popped.
Big group runs can still be fun. I still like showing up to them from time to time. But most people eventually realize real progress doesn’t come from crowds. It comes from finding a small squad you actually train with, or just doing your own thing most of the time.
Same paces. Same goals. Same early alarms.
And yeah, there are still legit, well run clubs that do it right, like Tracksmith in Boston.
But way too many run clubs popped up over the past couple years, and now most of them are dead. The rest are basically social clubs, dating clubs, or drinking clubs in running shoes. Totally fine. Just don’t confuse it with training.

I have a strange feeling is that heat prep will be the new zone 2 fad for 2026.. You'll start to see A LOT of folks doing this quite soon and those who could focus on the fundamentals first. You heard it here first!

A new study of endurance athletes suggests that bradycardia (HR of 40 bpm or less) is common, not associated with adverse outcomes, and may be largely explained by genetics. "...a low bradycardia PRS was disproportionately more common among endurance athletes than in the general population, raising the possibility that a tendency of low HR in athletes may be an inherited trait rather than a fully acquired phenomenon."
