WATCH | Hi. I thought I should share this video. The suspect recently caught on camera in Mt Pleasant stealing diesel looks similar to the one filmed in Marlborough in November 2025. In that earlier incident, the man used a ladder to climb over a wall and steal fuel from a vehicle. He had a container and a pipe, which he used to siphon fuel from cars. UPDATE | Preliminary investigations show that Mr Chikwava, also known as Baba veSadza, had his EcoCash account hacked after a one-time password (OTP) was shared with a fraudster. Reports say the OTP was sent to his phone, but his daughter, who had the phone at the time, unknowingly entered the code on a fake link sent by the scammer. This gave the fraudster access to the account. Several transactions were then made, including amounts of US$1,000, US$500, and US$100. However, some of the money is still in the recipients’ accounts, and efforts are currently underway for Econet to try and recover the funds. It is believed that the person behind the scam may have known that Mr Chikwava had money in his account and also had access to his phone number. Members of the public are strongly warned never to share OTP codes with anyone or enter them on suspicious links.
