@thescottbarber Canada has enough problems dealing with the fallout from Trudeau and Carney nuking your country. USA politics should be the least of your concerns.

587 days. That's how long the Canadian healthcare system took to call me back about the spinal surgery I needed immediately or risk losing the use of my legs. In 2024, I broke my back in Singapore. The neurosurgeon there said surgery was urgent. After 3 weeks fighting my insurance from a hospital bed, I flew home with medical support. The Canadian hospital quoted an 8-month wait. I'm lucky I could afford to go private. The next day, I had the operation. Today, 587 DAYS LATER, the public hospital called to say they're ready for me. People say Canadian healthcare is free and great. It's neither. It's horrible!

Maggie Chi, a Chinese born MP has just voted to turn off all cameras and recording devices in the parliamentary health committee. barring the public from ever accessing any records of what occured. The topic? $300 million wasted on Prescribe IT.

@mattgurney What are the odds the federal government see the firearms buyback through to completion?

I am answering (appropriate!) questions today as part of our Line fundraiser. I owed 10 because we hit our fundraising goal. After this one, I owe one more. Send me your questions! Next one wins. I don't think I have a take yet, simply because Lewis is so new. Certainly it's obvious to the point of banality to note that the party is in deep trouble. But until we see how Lewis performs, and how much of the left flank the Liberals are willing to cede back, it's just impossible to say. It matters a lot, though, and not just in terms of seats. A strong NDP vote can eat into LPC vote share enough to open up some seats for the Tories. So this is something I'll be watching.

@mattgurney Curious to hear your take on the future of the federal NDP. Can they get back to 20-25 seats (a modest goal)? IMHO Singh is hands-down the worst federal party leader of the century, so far. Yes, I know there’s strong competition for that title. But happy to hear your thoughts.

The media manufacturing a "Conservatives hate Poilievre" narrative would be gross in the best of times. It's a hideous, gangrenous wound when the prime minister just finished seizing total power and is now moving to detonate the country's single largest source of wealth.

you're really out here arguing that the liberals are actually losing, but they're too scared to call an election to prove it? lol the liberals are up 6 points in abacus, 14 points in léger, 9 points in ipsos, 11 points in angus reid, and 17 points in mainstreet. that's five different pollsters, five different methodologies, all showing the same thing: carney is winning and poilievre is sinking. you're not pointing to a conspiracy. you're just pointing to your own denial. "anyone with two brain cells knew the liberals were never up by 15+" they literally were. léger had them up 14. angus reid had them up 11. mainstreet had them up 17. the fact that the lead has tightened to 6 in abacus doesn't mean the liberals were never ahead. it just means the race has tightened. which happens. that's not a scandal. that's just tuesday. lol

New Abacus Data #cdnpoli poll: Liberals lead with 44% to the Conservatives’ 38%, a 6-point advantage that has held steady over recent waves. The race remains remarkably stable despite a more volatile political environment. abacusdata.ca/liberals-lead-…

@MacLeodLisa Imagine going through all these mental gymnastics just because your party can’t choose a leader that others respect or want to follow? My Dad lives in Sarnia, life long Conservative. He messaged me this week saying, I’m glad she crossed. Wow. Let’s peal the onion here.

In fact, in our Westminster system, the only places I could find mass defections and inducements that changed the balance of power were in East Africa - Malawi, Kenya. Kenya now has strict anti defection laws to prevent such abuses of power. Every other example in mature democracies - UK, Australia, NZ and Canada (before Carney) were either through a single independent crosser (not mass inducement), Speakership or coalitions and accords. In the latter three instances they were all carried out transparently and in the House. Every thinking person in Canada should really have a good look at what this means. Holding the crossers as trophies or traitors is actually beside the point. What is at stake is much bigger than them. It is the autocracy that Carney is creating and its acceptance by media, sycophants and pacifists.
Lisa MacLeod@MacLeodLisa

Even Donald Trump, whose disregard for institutions is well known, has never been able to seize absolute power without electoral consent like Mark Carney has.

Is there anything more Canadian than a Mcgill educated, Ottawa appointed judge from New Brunswick telling Alberta what they are allowed to vote for? Maybe we can ask Quebec in their third referendum to decide whether Alberta gets any seats in the HOC at all.
