Federal law can't amend a constitutional right.
If you want to make an exception for searches of private data at the border, you have to amend the constitution to allow that.
Federal law does not have the ability to make that level of exception to fundamental rights. The fact the courts haven't caught up doesn't change the fact it's how the system was designed.
Border Patrol has the ability to detain and question anyone within a 100 mile radius of the border. Do you understand how insane of an overstep that is?
If you live within 100 miles of the U.S. border you can be detained and questioned without reason if they suspect you of anything. It's nonsense and it's a violation of everything the country was founded on.

Dude is an American citizen. He's not a foreigner coming in and therefore he's default protected by the 4th amendment.
The fact he deleted his data before a search isn't a crime. We all have the right to privacy. The constitution is unmoving on the 2nd amendment. That same standard applies to the 4th amendment.

The attack on 25 July at Berlin Pride is a stark reminder that the right to celebrate who you are, safely and openly, cannot be taken for granted. Pride was born as a protest, and in many places it still has to be one.
The EU stands with the LGBTIQ+ community, in Germany and everywhere. Defending the right to live openly, without fear, is not a seasonal gesture, it is a continuous commitment. Hate does not get the last word.
