It shows Sharon Eubank, the Global Humanitarian Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church), sharing the stage with Azhar Azeez, head of the U.S. branch of Muslim Aid.
The event was presented as a friendly discussion on “human dignity in natural disasters,” disaster relief, and the role of faith-based charities.
It looked like harmless interfaith cooperation.
But here’s what most people don’t know:
Muslim Aid is a charity with well-documented terror ties.
Its UK headquarters has admitted in the past to funding organizations linked to Hamas, a U.S.-designated terrorist group.
The organization has faced investigations in multiple countries over connections to Hamas fundraising networks and other Islamist militant causes.
But the concerns surrounding Muslim Aid go even deeper.
From its earliest leadership, the organization has been tied to Jamaat-e-Islami, a global Islamic movement linked to extremist activity across South Asia.
One of Muslim Aid’s early leaders, Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin, was convicted as a war criminal for his role in a killing squad responsible for abductions and murders during Bangladesh’s 1971 war.
Other senior figures connected to the organization have included Islamic activists who supported violent extremism and incited unrest in the West.
Did you know:
Muslim Aid has also admitted to funding front organizations tied to Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad, following investigations by British authorities.
Authorities have flagged connections to jihadist networks in Indonesia.
It has been listed among charities supporting Islamic terrorism in Bangladesh.
Spanish investigators found links to jihadist financing in Bosnia.
Even the U.S. Treasury examined the organization as a potential terror financier.
Muslim Aid has also partnered with Al Khidmat, the charitable arm of Jamaat-e-Islami in Pakistan — an organization that works with Hizbul Mujahideen, a designated terrorist group.
In one case, a senior Pakistani intelligence official tied to terror networks was appointed to a leadership role within Muslim Aid’s Pakistan operations.
By sharing the stage with Azhar Azeez, a senior LDS humanitarian leader, is publicly normalizing and platforming the head of a charity flagged for these serious links.
